Christ speaks to us through the Holy Scriptures and wants His followers to allow
the Bible to be authoritative in their lives.
The Authority of the Bible is the Authority of Christ.
Foundation for Authority
What is the purpose of authority?
It establishes TRUTH and PRESCRIBES practice.
The Bible constitutes authority for Baptists because it is God’s
REVELATION of His truth…
John 17:17,
“Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” NASB;
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” NLT
Psalm 119:160,
“The sum of Your word is truth, And every one of Your righteous ordinances is
everlasting.” NASB;
“The sum of Your word is truth [the total of the full meaning of all Your individual
precepts]; and every one of Your righteous decrees endures forever.” Amplified
