Degrees • To be a neonatal nurse, a student must become a registered nurse (RN) or a nurse-practitioner (NP). A registered nurse is usually a graduate of a 4-year college or university, although some community colleges offer specialized programs designed to train registered nurses in 2 years. These programs are often run in conjunction with nearby hospitals to provide clinical experience for the students. Some hospitals offer 3-year programs to train and educate registered nurses. A nurse-practitioner needs a master's degree in addition to a 4-year degree. Intended Major of Study • I want to be a NICU nurse. I think that’s what I would enjoy to do when I get out of college. I plan to work either at UAB or Brookewood. • I really think that’s my best choice I could have to chose. Student Enrollment • Applicants with less than 24 semester hours must submit official copies of their high-school transcripts and either ACT or SAT scores. Applicants who graduated from high school at least four years prior to the date of anticipated enrollment may be admitted to the University without the ACT or SAT, provided their highschool grade point averages are 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. However, for placement purposes, the ACT or SAT may be required of all students who are enrolled. Student Organizations • An overview of the organization, personnel, and practices of student affairs and related higher education functions in U.S. colleges and universities. The course is designed to increase student understanding of how student services, student activities, and student development tasks are organized, administered, and assessed. Students will explore the main issues, roles, constituencies and expectations affecting individual professionals as well as the profession as a whole.
