Economy is failing- though it fairly successful
compared to the rest of the world


Third world country
Before the 1950s, economy was flourishing,
should have been top economical country in
East Asia, but the country tried to become
industrialized with a policy of import substitution
but in the long term, this led to misallocation of
resources and inefficiency.

This economic downfall left to political
corruption, as politicians needed the bribe
money.

The poor economy leads to kidnapping; Abu
Sayyaf (a militant Islamic separatist group)
kidnaps, using ransoms to fund their operations.

32.9% of the population is under the poverty
line- almost 1/3, about 30,682,802.6 people


made from leftover U.S. military jeeps from
World War II. Currently, jeepneys are used as
buses.
