Policies Plagiarism and academic misconduct Academic honesty is the cornerstone of college-level education. Academic dishonesty includes cheating, plagiarizing, giving another student your work to copy, allowing another student to see your quizzes or tests, or working together on an assignment when it has not been specified as group work. Plagiarism is generally defined as the act of using someone else’s ideas, words, or organization without giving them due credit. Any student caught plagiarizing material will be prosecuted to the full extent of the College’s guidelines (see the student handbook). You must clearly distinguish your ideas and words from the work of others (through citing) and working with other classmates to complete assignments is prohibited, unless otherwise specified in class. If you are academically dishonest, the following is the minimum punishment you will receive: 1. I will submit a student misconduct form documenting your behavior to the college for placement in your academic file. 2. You will earn 0 points on that assignment/exam/paper. Attendance No attendance credit is given to late arrivals/early departures. As per college policy, you may be dropped for four of more unexcused absences or as a result of not attending the first class session. Unexcused absences are those for which you do not inform the instructor prior to class time and for which you cannot provide a legitimate reason (verified illness or family emergency). Missed quizzes, and reports cannot be made up unless you have a verified medical or family emergency and notified the instructor before/during class. Participation points and attendance points cannot be made up, regardless of an absence being excused or unexcused. Late Work If you anticipate a problem completing an assignment on time, you must contact the professor AHEAD of the due date to request an extension. All late work is accepted at the discretion of the professor. Disabilities If you have a verified disability and believe you would benefit from reasonable accommodation, you may wish to identify yourself to me and may do so in person or via e-mail at any time. You can arrange for services through the Disabled Student Programs & Services in D209 (626-585-7127). If you have questions about this, please see me or visit www.pasadena.edu/studentservices/dsps. Pasadena City College Music 21 (Section 30312) Music Appreciation Spring 2015 Syllabus 4 Student conduct in class NO devices may be used for personal use during class time. Computers/tablets may be used to take notes. Misuse of personal electronic devices and computers (social media, e-mail) during class will result in dismissal from class and an unexcused absence. Successfully working in groups is a part of many professions and is key to much of life’s interactions. Practice respectful interactions in all class communications and group work. Disagreement is a healthy part of discussion; belittling, berating and unconstructive criticism is NOT. Behavior that disrupts or disrespects the class will not be tolerated. Should you feel a fellow student is misbehaving in any way, from cheating to inappropriate/hurtful discussion interaction, please contact the professor immediately.
