IV. Class Activities, Assignments, and Grading
Please refer to the Canvas calendar for due dates as schedule may change. Final
grades will be based on the following:
1) Attendance/Participation. Students are expected to attend class, arriving
on time with appropriate materials. No attendance points are given for late
arrivals. Attendance will be taken in a variety of ways including roll call and
participation activities given by the instructor during class. If you are found
not participating in an activity, the professor may revoke your
attendance/participation points for that day.
2) Assignments. Throughout the semester, the professor may hand out
assignments. Due dates and grades will be listed on Canvas.
3) Revel Work. Your text is available on Pearson’s Revel platform- an
interactive program that includes quizzes and listening. Specific chapters
have been assigned to you for completion, with due dates listed on the
Canvas and Revel calendars. Because everyone has a bad week once in a
while, the 20th Century Revel chapters will be considered extra credit.
4) Syllabus Exam. The Syllabus Exam is located on Canvas and consists of
multiple choice and true/false questions. It may be taken multiple times up
until the due date as listed on the Canvas calendar.
5) Academic Dishonesty Activity: Academic honesty is the cornerstone of an
education and of personal integrity. This Canvas activity consists of essay,
multiple choice and other questions designed to clarify and make sure you
understand the expectations for this class.
6) Midterm and Final. There is a midterm and final exam at the given time for
our class. Make-up exams are not given, except with an excused absence (see
attendance section below).
7) Concert Reports. Each student will write two concert reports and edit two
concert reports for a classmate. Specific instructions for the reports are
available in the Concert Report Modules on Canvas.
Grading:
A: 90-100% B: 80-89%
C: 70-79%
D: 60-69%
F: 0-59%
Final grades are rounded up to nearest percentage.
Points rubric for assignments, attendance and quizzes may be found in the “Getting
Started” module on Canvas.
Extra Credit is available in the “Extra Credit” Module on Canvas. Extra Credit can be
turned in any time until the final exam.

V. Policies
Plagiarism and academic misconduct
Academic honesty is the cornerstone of college-level education. Academic
dishonesty includes cheating, plagiarizing, giving another student your work to
copy, allowing another student to see your quizzes or tests, or working together on
an assignment when it has not been specified as group work.
Plagiarism is generally defined as the act of using someone else’s ideas, words, or
organization without giving them due credit. Any student caught plagiarizing
material will be prosecuted to the full extent of the College’s guidelines (see the
student handbook). You must clearly distinguish your ideas and words from the
work of others (through citing) and working with other classmates to complete
assignments is prohibited, unless otherwise specified in class.
If you are academically dishonest, the following is the minimum punishment you
will receive:
1. I will submit a student misconduct form documenting your behavior to the
college for placement in your academic file.
2. You will earn 0 points on that assignment/exam/paper.
Attendance
No attendance credit is given to late arrivals/early departures. As per college policy,
you may be dropped for four of more unexcused absences or as a result of not
attending the first class session. Unexcused absences are those for which you do not
inform the instructor prior to class time and for which you cannot provide a
legitimate reason (verified illness or family emergency).
Missed quizzes, and reports cannot be made up unless you have a verified medical
or family emergency and notified the instructor before/during class. Participation
points and attendance points cannot be made up, regardless of an absence being
excused or unexcused.
Late Work
If you anticipate a problem completing an assignment on time, you must contact the
professor AHEAD of the due date to request an extension. All late work is accepted
at the discretion of the professor.
Disabilities
If you have a verified disability and believe you would benefit from reasonable
accommodation, you may wish to identify yourself to me and may do so in person or
via e-mail at any time.
You can arrange for services through the Disabled Student Programs & Services in
D209 (626-585-7127). If you have questions about this, please see me or visit
www.pasadena.edu/studentservices/dsps.

Student conduct in class
NO devices may be used for personal use during class time. Computers/tablets may
be used to take notes. Misuse of personal electronic devices and computers (social
media, e-mail) during class will result in dismissal from class and an unexcused
absence.
Successfully working in groups is a part of many professions and is key to much of
life’s interactions. Practice respectful interactions in all class communications and
group work. Disagreement is a healthy part of discussion; belittling, berating and
unconstructive criticism is NOT. Behavior that disrupts or disrespects the class will
not be tolerated.
Should you feel a fellow student is misbehaving in any way, from cheating to
inappropriate/hurtful discussion interaction, please contact the professor
immediately.
