Michele Bachmann introduces the Light Bulb Freedom Act of 2011 This week Rep. Michele Bachmann introduced legislation to repeal the idiotic incandescent light bulb ban enacted in 2007. Bachmann said her "Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act" is needed because "government has no business telling an individual what kind of light bulb to buy." "In 2007, Congress overstepped its bounds by mandating that only 'energy efficient' light bulbs may be sold after January 1, 2012," she said. "This mandate has sweeping effects on American families and businesses and needs serious consideration before taking effect." Nuclear Energy • Most sources agree that nuclear power is the U.S.'s largest source of non-polluting energy, accounting for 73% of electricity from noncarbon sources, including wind and solar power • Nuclear power accounts for about 19% of the total electricity generated in the United States, an amount comparable to all the electricity used in California, Texas and New York, three most populous states • Nuclear power plants need less fuel than ones which burn fossil fuels.
