The concept of Tumor (Cancer) Registries was covered in your HI120 course.
In HI160, students will view the online CDC Cancer Registry materials.

The National Program of Cancer Registries collects data on cancer patients. What type of data is
collected?

In the U.S. in that year, what was the 10th ranked cancer for males (all races) ?

In Los Angeles, for the same time period, what is the number 1 ranked cancer for males and females?
From your answers to #3 and #4 – is there any significance to this?

 Watch video and do assignment
Unit 4 – McKesson vLab
 For this unit’s assignment, you will need to watch the
simulation for the McKesson Horizon Patient Folder.
Once you have completed the simulation, complete
the quiz and submit a screen shot of the quiz to the
Unit 4 drop box.

Select the McKesson simulation.
Unit 5 - QuadraMed
 For this unit’s Assignment, you will need to watch
the simulation for the Quadramed SmartID and
Smart Merge. Once you have completed the
simulation, complete the quiz and submit a screen
shot of the quiz to the Unit 5 drop box.

Unit 6 – Quantim Encoder
 For this unit’s Assignment, you will need to watch
the simulation for the Quantim Encoder. This
simulation does not have a quiz, but you will need to
watch the simulation in order to answer the
questions on the Discussion Board.

and choose the Virtual Lab Application Simulations.
Select the Quantim simulation.
Unit 7 – Both Questions
 Based on your research on data standards, you will complete a one page
summary addressing the questions below. The summary shall be
completed in Microsoft Word with double-spacing and a 12 point font.
This assignment shall follow the conventions of Standard American
English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc). You writing shall be well
ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your
writing shall display superior content, organization, style and
mechanics. Use APA format, including references.Submit your
assignment to the Dropbox.
 What is the difference between standards set by accrediting agencies
(such as JCAHO or CARF) and regulations (such as those in the
Conditions of Participation)?
 Give examples of why it is necessary to have a data dictionary to explain
each field of an MPI.

Unit 10 – Final Project

You will design a flow chart or diagram of the creation of the hospital patient medical
record. The flow chart or diagram will cover the time frame from admission to permanent
file in the Health Information Department.

You may choose any form of application to complete the flow chart including PowerPoint,
brochure, pamphlet, etc.. Be creative in the design of the flow chart by using graphics and
other illustrations. (A word document for the flow chart will not be acceptable).

A narrative of the process shall accompany the flow diagram. You must answer these
questions: Is the record electronic or manual, or both? If both, explain which steps are
manual and which are electronic. If electronic, what is your plan should the computer
system be down? The narrative shall be a 200-300 Word document. The narrative shall
be double-spaced with a 12 point font. This assignment shall follow the conventions of
Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc). You writing shall be
well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. Your writing shall
display superior content, organization, style and mechanics. Use APA format, including
references. You need to submit the project to the Dropbox for Unit 10, as well as post it in
the Discussion board.
