The deadline for applications is February 21, 2016. The Georgetown Master’s in American Government is a 12-month, intensive, accelerated, program, including 10 classes and a practicum (i.e. work experience) placement in a government or government-related organization in the spring and summer. Past students have had practicum placements at the Office of Management and Budget and other government agencies, in various congressional committees and at a variety of interest groups and party organizations. The practicum includes 20 hours of work per week in the spring, and 30 in the summer, in addition to course work. Thus, at the end of 12 months, students have a Georgetown degree and DC work experience. It is the ideal way to start a career in Washington. The program blends the theoretical with the practical. Courses are taught by Georgetown University faculty and experts in the field. Students are required to take courses on statistics, approaches to American government and leadership. They may also choose from a wide variety of elective classes on subjects such as Congress, the Presidency, the media, public opinion, political parties and more. In the spring and summer, students plan and write a capstone paper, rooted in their own practical experiences. If you are interested in politics and would like to both expand your academic knowledge and put it to use in a Washington political setting, we welcome your application for the MA in American Government at Georgetown University.
