AP Psychology Summer Assignment Mr. Chavez—Murrieta Mesa High School The object of this summer assignment is for you to get a quick introduction into the field and study of psychology. Through the course of the school year we will examine issues of the mind and body as a way to explain human behavior. These first two modules (aka chapters) will provide the foundation for this study. Please review the directions for the assignment and be ready to turn it in on the first day of AP Psychology. Assignment: 1) Read Module 1 and Module 2 2) Define all terms in boldface in the text for both modules using your own words summarizing information from the text. DO NOT USE THE GLOSSARY. Please keep the vocabulary for each module separate, number the terms for each chapter, underline each term, and staple if appropriate. See example below. 3) Answer each objective for each section of both modules. Keep the objectives for each module separate and label the objective (ex: Objective 1-2). 4) You must handwrite the assignment in blue or black ink. This is to prevent sharing of typed assignments. Notes: 1) There are 14 terms and 8 objectives in Module 1. 2) There are 7 terms and 8 objectives in Module2. Examples: Vocabulary 1) Triskaidekaphobia—triskaidekaphobia is a disorder where people have a phobia of the number 13. Because it is a phobia, this means that the number 13 will cause afflicted people extreme stress and anxiety to the point where it disrupts normal functioning. Objectives Objective 1-1: Explain the purpose of doing the summer assignment for AP Psychology. The purpose of doing the summer assignment for AP Psychology is to develop an initial understanding of the field and study of psychology. The AP Psychology curriculum is very broad, with 53 modules in the textbook. Completing the initial modules over the summer will save time and allow the class to spend more time on units of study more relevant to the AP Psychology exam.
