University of Missouri – St. Louis rep will be here Feb. 18 at 8:30 in the guidance office.
MACC COLLEGE AND CAREER FAIR will be held April 13 from 10 am to 1 pm. Over 60 exhibitors
will be in attendance. The Fair will be an excellent opportunity for students to network with
employers, explore job opportunities and gather information about post-secondary institutions.
The fair will be held in the Activity Center on the Moberly Campus. For more information and a

John Wood Community College Agricultural Sciences Open House will be held Feb. 22. All
interested students and their parents are invited to attend. This is a good time to find out more
about JWCC, the ag program and all that JWCC has to offer. Activities will begin at 4:30 and end
around 9. To register call 217-641-4558 or email ag@jwcc.edu by Feb. 12. Stop in the guidance
office for a copy of the agenda.
SCHOLARSHIP/AWARD OPPORTUNITIES
SchoolSoup.com is a website that is considered the authority on colleges/university

Scholarship Opportunities – Several Insurance companies and organizations are providing
excellent opportunities for students to receive scholarships. Full details of the scholarships can

Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Marion County Scholarship applications are available in
the Guidance office. Conditions of the scholarship are: Open to ALL graduating seniors,
scholarship money may be applied to any chosen college, university, or trade school,
scholarship will be awarded after proof of acceptance to a higher learning institution, children
or grandchildren of Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Directors or employees are ineligible, academic
grades and extra-curricular activities will be considered, this is a one-time award, must be used
within one year after is awarded or will be forfeited. Deadline to apply is March 14, but will
need to be turned into the Guidance office by March 1 so we can fill out our part of the
application.
StudentScholarships.org is a site that lists several scholarships for Missouri students. You can
download it at www.studentscholarship.org/newsletter.php. Each scholarship lists the eligibility
requirements, and how to apply.
National Defense Transportation Association Scott/St. Louis Chapter scholarship program
promotes careers in Business, Transportation Logistics and Physical Distribution. All students
may apply, preference will be given to students pursuing these and related courses of study.
Applications are available in the Guidance office. Deadline to apply is March 1.
Buick Achievers Scholarship Program recognizes and supports those students who have overcome obstacles, have taken steps to better themselves and their communities. The GM
Foundation wants to help those who put forth effort and find success both in and out of the
classroom, yet are unable to attend college without financial help. Visit

RALLS COUNTY SENIORS – Etta Mae Anderson Scholarship is for Ralls County seniors, with
preference going to those entering the field of education. Applications are available in the
guidance office. Deadline is Feb. 12
Kenneth Gregg Agricultural Scholarship is for Ralls County seniors, with a preference for those
entering the field of agriculture. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline is
Feb. 12.
2016 Missouri Bankers Foundation Scholarship is for seniors interested in pursuing banking and
banking-related careers. Applications and more information can be found at
www.mobankers.com .
The local Ag Futures of America scholarship is available at

Northeast Missouri Old Threshers scholarship applications are available in the Guidance office.
Family must be a member of Northeast Missouri Old Threshers for the past two years in order
to apply. Two winners will be chosen. Criteria: financial need, academic performance, interest
of history in agriculture, character and citizenship. Deadline to apply is Feb. 17.
Merrell University of Beauty Arts and Sciences, of Jefferson City and Moberly, are again offering
a Cosmetology Scholarship to be used toward tuition. Guidelines: good moral character, upper
50% of high school class, indicate an interest in hair designing and have creative, artistic ability,
or indicate an interest in spa services and skincare, two letters of recommendation and
transcript. Students must enroll by November 2016 to qualify. Applications for admission, as
well as the scholarship applications are available online at www.merrelluniversity.edu under
Financial Aid. (The Guidance office has copies of the scholarship application.)
Missouri Association Mutual Insurance Companies (MAMIC) will award scholarships to 8 seniors
who plan to attend college in Missouri. Applications are available in the guidance office.
Deadline to apply is Feb. 18.
Hannibal Area Chapter #4610 of the American Association of Retired Persons will award two
$750.00 scholarships this year. One will be awarded to a Hannibal High School student the
other will be awarded to a senior from an area school. Deadline to apply is March 3.
University of Central Missouri Steward Scholars Program is a great opportunity for seniors who
are interested in a career in Information Technology. The Steward family has funded four-year,
full-ride scholarships for three qualified students. Applicants should have a minimum gpa of 3.0,
have a declared major in Computer Information Systems at UCM and complete an application
which includes three references, a resume and a statement of career goals. Deadline is March
1.
Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship qualifications/eligibility: GPA of 3.0 or higher, enroll fulltime at an accredited four-year college or university, demonstrate leadership abilities,
combined adjusted income of the parent(s) cannot exceed $50,000. Full details about this
scholarship can be obtained in the guidance office. Deadline to apply is March 31.
High School Student-Volunteer Community Service Scholarship Awards - Must provide a small
write-up showcasing 2 service projects that inspired you to serve and volunteer, or has
impacted you to continue to serve and volunteer. Deadline is March 11. For more information
stop in for a copy of the application.
The American Legion Applications are now available. Pick them up in the Guidance Office.
Deadlines for all of those offered is April 5.
Whitetail Scholarship is now available. Deadline is March 15.
The Northeast Missouri Special Education Coop scholarships are available in the guidance
office. There are scholarships for Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant
and Speech/Language Pathologist Assistant. Deadline for completed applications to be
returned to the NEMO Coop office is Feb. 29
Missouri Valley College offers two $10,000 4-year English scholarships to incoming freshmen
English majors. The application deadline is Feb. 15. Flyer with descriptions can be picked up
from the guidance office.
MISCELLANEOUS
Truman State University’s Summer Talent Academy for Professions in Health (STAPH) and the
Zombie Scholars Academy: A Problem-Based Exploration of Science, Literature and Leadership
(ZSA) is looking for students who are bright and enthusiastic young learners. Each program is
one-week long during the summer. STAPH: students completing the 10th and 11th grade who
currently have a 3.25 GPA and a 3.5 GPA in basic science courses are eligible for nomination.
ZSA is a unique academic program that takes the unprecedented interest young people have in
the fiction of a “zombie apocalypse” and turns that creative energy into a vehicle for learning
about some of society’s most pressing needs. There is no minimum GPA. If you are interested in
being nominated for one or more of these programs stop by the Guidance office.
University of Missouri School of Music staff have developed an assortment of programs that
will aid in the development of young composers’ diverse talents and provide opportunities
necessary for training performers who specialize in new music. Competition is statewide,
recognizes students K – 12 who compose original works. Two highly competitive full-tuition

Missouri Health Careers – If you are seeking a fulfilling career, you will find plenty of openings
in the health care field. The Missouri Hospital Association offers a career website and career
guide that have the latest information about health care careers and educational programs. You

The St. Louis Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Program wants to help you become a JourneyLevel Carpenter. Your education consists of both on the job training and classroom and shop
instructions. The Nelson-Mulligan Carpenters’ Training Center located at 8300 Valcour Avenue
in St. Louis is open between 7 am and 4 pm, Monday through Friday. To apply you need to
show them proof that you are at least 18, fill out an application and begin looking for an
Apprentice job with a Union Contractor. They have employment counselors available to help
you find a job. Stop by and pick up further information in the guidance office. There is contact
person in Palmyra, Jim Thornburg, who has recently retired from this job and would be happy
to answer any questions you may have.
HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy is for Juniors and Seniors too! If you are passionate about
social causes, willing to take on new challenges, ready to develop an action plan and ready to
take on college-level curriculum and earn college credit, this program is for you. Will be held at
the Loyola University in Chicago, July 7 – 12. Cost is $895 which includes all meal,
accommodations, program expenses, and one college credit from George Mason University. If
interested see Mrs. Fulton in the Guidance office.
The Leadership in Practice program was developed by the Missouri Chamber Foundation to
engage Missouri high school students in hands on, real world leadership training. The program
is divided into five areas: global leadership, civic leadership, economic leadership, ethical
leadership and personal leadership. The key to the training is that students learn by
participating in small group discussions, activities and simulations. The students are mentored
by experienced business, civic and education leaders from across the state, imparting real world
knowledge to help guide their development during the forum. This year Leadership in Practice
will be held June 26 – 29 at the Westminster College campus in Fulton MO. For more

The Missouri State Highway Patrol will again offer their Student Alliance Program. The program
will take place on two consecutive Saturdays from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, beginning March 19.
Participants can be juniors and seniors of good character who might be interested in a career in
law enforcement. The activities will take place at Troop B Headquarters in Macon. Participants
must provide their own transportation and will be on their own for lunch break each day.

BIOME comes to Mizzou every August. This is a six-day. Residential, intensive academic
program designed to increase academic success for students majoring in the biological
Sciences. The program is a living-learning environment, which promotes strong academic rigor
and integration in to college life before and during the student’s first semester. Eligibility: must
be incoming freshmen admitted to the University for the Fall semester and have declared
Biological Sciences as his or her major. BIOME FIG co-enrollment is necessary to participate in

AMDA has announced their 2016 National Audition Tour for Admission and Scholarships. Dates
and locations can be picked up in the Guidance office. AMDA has been committed to providing
an unsurpassed performing arts education to a diverse community of creative artists and has
two thriving campuses – one in Manhattan and the other in Los Angeles. AMDA offers more

The IBEW-NECA Apprenticeship Training Committee for IBEW Local 350 is currently accepting
applications for the 2016 apprenticeship program. This program allows students to earn money
while learning a trade important to our country’s economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics
predicts the demand for qualified electricians from 2012 to 2020 will lead to more than 114,700
new electrician jobs. Applications can be picked up at 801 Church Street, Hannibal, between the
hours of 7 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Please call Business Manager Bill Tate at
573-221-2648 to schedule a time to pick up the application. Stop in the guidance office to pick
up the application letter for full details. Deadline to apply is June 30.
Washington University in St. Louis have numerous summer programs for middle school and
high school students. High School Summer Scholars Program, High School Summer Institutes,
Middle School Summer Challenge, EducationUSA Academy to name a few. For a brochure of
the various programs, the dates and cost, stop in the guidance office.
Missouri State University registration for the 2016 Bears High School Athletic Training Summer
Camp is open. This is on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield, MO and is
designed for students interested in learning more about the field of athletic training. There is
also a scholarship being offered this year. More info at

Culver-Stockton College Art Department will be hosting a Tri-State Juried High School Art
Competition and Visual Arts Day on Tuesday, March 22. The Visual Arts Day is designed to
recognize artistic talent at the high school level with the tri-state region. This is a valid
educational experience. Activities will begin around 9 am and will conclude by 2 pm. You will
need to RSVP with the admissions office by calling 800.537.1883 or by email at

Columbia College has several summer camps for all high school students. Summer Arts
Intensive, Nursing Camp, Biotechnology Camp, Forensic Science & Criminal Justice Camp,
