Mr. Dressel’s “Good Citizen” Rewards & Discipline Plan
I believe that all my students can and will behave appropriately when at school. I will not allow any student to stop me from
teaching and/or any student from learning. We will treat our classroom as our home away from home and the people in our
classroom as our “school family.” We will support and encourage each other in all that we do, and we will expect the best from
one another. In order to guarantee your child, and all children in my classroom, the productive learning environment they
deserve, I will be utilizing the following rewards and discipline plan.
Classroom Rules
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Follow directions quickly
Raise your hand for permission to speak
Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
Make smart choices
Keep your dear teacher happy
Consequences
If a student chooses to NOT follow a rule, he/she will receive a “sad-face stick.” However, before any sad sticks are given, I will
give a verbal warning.
1 stick = lose your star for the day
2 sticks = 5 minutes time out at recess
3 sticks = 10 minutes time out at recess and a behavior note is sent home
4 sticks = no recess and a behavior note is sent home
5 sticks = no recess, a behavior note is sent home and a phone call is made to the child’s parents. ** A serious infraction could
result in an immediate visit to the office for further discipline action.
Rewards
Students who do not receive any sad-face sticks for the day, will earn a star on their individual behavior chart, which is
displayed in the classroom and called the “Good Citizen” board (in Chinese, of course). When a student earns 20 stars, he/she
may choose an item from my treasure box. Once a star is earned, it can’t be taken away. All students will have opportunities to
earn extra stars throughout the day by making smart choices or exhibiting positive behaviors in work and play. Each morning
every student begins with a fresh start and no sad-face sticks.
How can I find out about my child’s behavior in class?


Ask your child each day
Check your child’s homework folder and look for any behavior note he/she may have received. Email me if unsure.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to talk with your child about any problems he or she might be having at
school, and for helping me to reinforce appropriate behavior at school.
As a class, we review the rules consistently throughout the year and have them posted in our room. Together, we role-play
conflict resolution situations, to help us learn how to handle situations correctly and with respect for others. Your child will
quickly become very aware of what is expected of them concerning their behavior at school. Please explain to your child, as I
have, that I am fair and consistent with all my students. If they choose NOT to do what is expected of them, they are choosing
the negative consequences, not the teacher. I want them to learn that if they make a poor choice there will be a consequence
and that they will be held accountable for their choices. On the other hand, I love rewarding and praising positive behavior and
actions and if they choose to follow the rules, it will be noticed and they will be rewarded.
Thank you for your support.
PLEASE GO OVER THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR CHILD, SIGN THE BOTTOM PORTION AND RETURN IT TO ME. PLEASE KEEP
