As a Delta employee I must know what’s right, do what’s right, ask if I am ever unsure, and keep asking until you get the answer. (Hillsman) Company History Delta Airlines began operations as Huff Daland Duster a crop dusting corporation. The company was based in Monore Louisaian and during the winter it did crop dusting in Peru. In 1927 it received a contract to carry airmail between Peru and Ecuador. Huff Daland Manufacturing the airlines owner sold its crop dusing subsidairy to a Monroe businessman. He renamed the company Delta Air. The company began passenger service between Dallas Texas and Jackson Mississippi. In 1934 Delta won its first air mail contract. In 1941 Delta moved its offices from Monroe to Atlanta. In 1953 Delta merged with Chicago and Southern Airlines. In 1972 it aquireed Northeast Airlines and in 1987 it aquired Western Airlines. In 1991 Delta acquired many of the assets of bankrupt Pan American, including its European routes, its shuttle and many of the aircraft to fly on those routes. Delta struggled by the beginning of the 21st century to compete with low cost carriers. Delta started a low cost subsidiary Song. Rapidly rising fuel cost pushed Delta into bankrupcy in September 2005. (ALexander, 2003) Analysis Delta Airlines is more than just an airline to me, and my group. It stands out to be such a positive working environment. After learning and understanding the development of a very successful flight team we see that hard work pays off, especially in the business scheme. After learning about how Delta treats its employees with great benefits we see how they are so successful. Their goal of having the best customer service and a good organization for customer loyalty, this makes Delta Airlines a truly remarkable company. Delta was able to overcome its hardships and develop from simply a crop dusting company to the incredible flight company that people know and love it as today. However, with a business with so much publicity, it is bound to come with its problems that need to be overcome as well. Some believe Delta’s prices to be outrageous. When trying to decide what airline is the best for you to fly, Delta will not always be the best on the list. Another downside to this organization comes with the fact that it is such a large corporation. With so many people flying the same airline and expecting the same benefits, travelers are sure to run into complications when it comes to trying to make it to their destinations. Customers often complain of long lines when waiting at the airport, and because of this, it is sometimes in the traveler’s best interest to use a smaller, less busy airline. Though there are faults with every corporation, Delta still manages to rise to the occasion and prove time and time again that they are a worthwhile organization and that they are worth the hassle that may come with the airline. The heart of Delta Airlines is its customers and those that remain loyal to the airline. As Hillsman stated before, Delta employees know how important it is to treat each other, their superiors, and especially their customers with the respect and dedication that it takes to keep them as a truly amazing organization.
