Service Description: MSS – Hortonworks Hadoop
Services
An overview of the G-Cloud Service (functional, non-functional)
MSS – Hortonworks Hadoop Services are related to the framework that allows for
the distributed processing of large data sets across clusters of commodity
computers using a simple programming model.
Hadoop is designed to scale up from single servers to thousands of machines,
each providing computation and storage. Rather than rely on hardware to deliver
high-availability, the framework itself is designed to detect and handle failures at
the application layer, thus delivering a highly-available service on top of a cluster
of computers, each of which may be prone to failures.
MSS – Hortonworks Hadoop Services provides clients with skills and capabilities
around the installation configuration and ongoing administration of an onpremises or cloud based Hadoop infrastructure.

offerings and management of their performance. This provides MSS with clarity on how service providers
operate, where and how benefits can be realised and a deep understanding of their service offerings.
All technology used is delivered from the Cloud, on a Software-as-a-Service basis. This removes the need for
software installation (other than a standard browser) and associated hardware, database and support costs,
enabling the systems to be up and running with maximum efficiency.
