November we Remember

Please see below some suggested readings and reflections

1 st Reading: Colossians.

This reading speaks of the qualities we should embrace as Christians

The reading is as follow.

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,

Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,

Humility, gentleness and patience.

Bear with each other and forgive one another

If any of you has a grievance against someone

Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

And over all these virtues put on love,

Which binds them all together in perfect unity.

This is the word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God.

A Reading from St Matthews Gospel.

The reading tells us how special and unique we all are.

The reading is as follows:

Do Not Worry

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink;

Or about your body, what you will wear.

Is not life more than food?, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; They do not sow or reap or store away in barns,

And yet your heavenly Father feeds them.

Are you not much more valuable than they?

Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

And why do you worry about clothes?

See the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin.

Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,

Will He not much more clothe you – you of little faith?

So do not worry, saying, “what shall we eat, or what shall we drink?

Or what shall we wear?

For the pagans run after all these things

And your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness,

And all these things will be given to you as well.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,

For tomorrow will worry about itself.

Each day has enough trouble of its own.

The word of the Lord.

We Remember Them

In the rising of the sun and its going down

We Remember Them

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter

We Remember Them

In the opening of bud and in the rebirth of Spring

We Remember Them

In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of Summer

We Remember Them

In the rustling of leaves and in the beauty of Autumn

We Remember Them

When we are weary and in need of strength

We Remember Them

When we are lost and sick at heart

We Remember Them

When we have joys and we yearn to share

We Remember Them

So long as we live, they too shall live,

We Remember Them

For they are now a part of us

As we remember them

( one reader reads the first line and all come in with the response “We remember them” )

Reflection:

The End of the Road is but a Bend in the Road

When we feel we have nothing left to give and we are sure that the song has ended -

When our day seems over and shadows fall and the darkness of night has descended -

Where can we go to find the strength to valiantly keep on trying ?

Where can we find the hand that will dry the tears that the heart is crying ?

There is one place to go and that is to God and dropping all pretence and pride -

We can pour out our problems without restraint and gain strength with Him at our side -

And together we stand at life’s crossroads and view what we think is the end -

But God had a much bigger vision and he tells us it’s only a bend -

So rest and relax and grow stronger, let go and let God share your load -

Your work is not finished or ended, you’ve just come to a ‘bend in the road’ -

For the road goes on and is smoother and the ‘pause’ in the song is a ‘rest’ -

And the part that’s unsung and unfinished is the sweetest and richest and best.

( Have gentle instrumental music playing in the background as above is read ! )

Hello to all Chaplains, Religion Coordinators and Religion Teachers.

Many years ago I “introduced “November we Remember” to the school I worked in

And it now has spread to many other schools throughout the country. I encourage you all to do the same. It would need a little preparation with your students. :

Try and make a list of all the people from your school community who have passed away.

Arrange shrine in Oratory or sacred space in your school.

Have candles ready to out to students who want to remember a family member etc.

Prepare a leaflet to compliment liturgy.

Please see 2 attachments that will help with Liturgy.
