About AREN
The Romanian “Nuclear Energy” Association (AREN), founded in 1990, is a professional, nongovernmental and non-profit organization, having about 250 individual members working in the nuclear
field and 7 corporate members.
AREN’s main goal is to support and foster nuclear power development and to inform and educate the
public about the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
AREN develops the programs regarding Young Generation and Women in Nuclear (WiN) Group
activities.
At the international level, AREN is a member of European Nuclear Society (ENS) since 1993 and has
cooperation agreement with similar organizations from the Unites States of America, France, Slovenia,
Canada and Bulgaria.
AREN-YG was founded in 2000 and it’s fully integrated in the Romanian Association for "NUCLEAR
ENERGY" – (Asociatia Romana pentru Energie Nucleara - AREN). Its chairman and co-chairman are
members of the AREN steering committee. Members of the Romanian YG are young professionals
working in nuclear related field up to 35 years old.

Main activities and programs:
AREN organizes every two years the International Symposium for Nuclear Energy (SIEN). In 2011
– the 10th edition
The Children Drawing and Essay writing competition organized every year. Over 200 drawings
and essays in 2012. The exhibition and award ceremony took place at the Parliament Palace.
Educational seminars for pupils and students – in 2012 a series of 3 seminars with over 100
participants in each seminar with the topic “Nuclear power-myths and facts”
Implication in the EURATOM Project “Implementing Public Participation Approaches
in Radioactive Waste Disposal ( IPPA )” – with several meetings and public debates organized so
far.
Participation in the European Network for Education and Training in Radiation Protection
(ENETRAP II). Support for a group of pupils to participate in an international competition
“Nuclear Energy” Magazine
Editing and writing articles for “Nuclear Energy” magazine, ENS News Bulletin, FORATOM News

especially among the young generation
To attract young people to nuclear education and nuclear industry and to contribute to the
formation of the future specialists by offering support in training programs, scholarships,
experience exchange
To create a communication and interaction platform between generations and between
peers from the different Romanian nuclear companies.
To represent Romania in the international forums such as European Nuclear Society – Young
Generation Network and International Youth Nuclear Congress
RYG is affiliated to the European Young Generation Network, of which we hold the Presidency,
through Mr. Andrei Goicea, SN Nuclearelectrica SA.

Training program of the young people and teachers on various subjects related to the
nuclear field
Addressing the schools in Bucharest, Cernavoda and Pitesti, we invited the pupils aged 13-18 and their teachers
in physics, biology, chemistry to participate in a series of seminars under the tile “Nuclear Power: Myths and
Facts”

This educational website was developed by several members of AREN YG in co-operation with the Politehnica
University of Bucharest and the Faculty of Physics.
Meeting with the young members of
the PNL political party, March 27th, 2012
The purpose of the meeting was to inform the young politicians about the social and economic benefits
of nuclear power for Romania, so that they can make informed future decisions. We plan to have
such meetings with all the political parties, young generation chapter.
“Open Doors” Program at the Politehnica University of Bucharest
•“Open Doors” is a annually event organized by “Politehnica” University of Bucharest,
April 5-7, 2012
•The main purpose of the program is to inform and attract high school students to choose
nuclear field for their future activity

Technical visit and information exchange at
Zwetendorf NPP in Austria and Paks NPP in Hungary
During April 27th – May 1st, a team of 27 YG members from Romanian nuclear companies
visited Zwetendorf museum in Austria and Paks NPP in Hungary and had meetings with the
local YG members.
YG workshop on Knowledge transfer organized at
the Nuclear 2012 Conference, May 17th, 2012
Around 70 participants in a information and know-how exchange with the senior management of
important Romanian companies: AMEC Romania, CITON, Nuclearelectrica, Institute for Nuclear
Research Pitesti, the Politechnica University of Bucharest.
International participation – IYNC 2012, Charlotte,
North Carolina, USA
Young professionals from Romania have been present at every edition of the International Youth
Nuclear Congress – IYNC with papers and technical tracks managers.

Attracting new members in Romanian YGN
Organize seminars with all the young wings of Romania’s political parties in order to gain
their support for nuclear power, as they are the decision makers of tomorrow
Organizing a nuclear science exhibition in Bucharest at the Science Museum, with the
support of sponsors, which will include public demonstration, mockups, movie projections,
speech by Romanian scientists, distribution of information materials.
Organize a meeting of European Nuclear Young Generation Network in Bucharest in 2013
Attract international funds in order to support education and information programs in
Romania.
