 Samantha travels to several hair shows throughout the state
each year to learn and refine the latest in technique for hair
coloring, coloring foil placement, and hair cutting strategies.
 Marketing herself to the community, a skill that Samantha
excels, as someone that is capable and compassionate to her
customers.

EDUCATION
 To become a hair stylist in Illinois there is a degree requirement
along with mandatory continuing education while in service
 Samantha’s Education
• Degree in Cosmetology from Lake Land College in Mattoon
• 16 hours continuing education hours for every 2 years that she is
service in the State of Illinois
TYPICAL DAY
 The hours of her busy days are never the same, they all depend on
the clients schedules and what works best for them.
 Normally, she will see between 8 and 10 people.
 Other parts of her day are answering the phone and scheduling
appointments
TYPICAL DAY
 Supplementary items that fill Samantha’s day are putting together
advertising information to be place in the newspaper and other forms
of advertising.
 She also decorates a window that faces the road with specials or
with the hair line product information that the salon is using.
TYPICAL DAY
 There are numerous phone calls from customers that need
answering along with talking to other merchants to make sure that
there are constantly products in the salon for the stylists to use and
for the customers to purchase.

 She spends a great deal of her time making sure that the
customers will be comfortable and the stylists will have access to all
the latest and most innovative hair care products and services.
MARKETING
 When I asked Samantha to give me her definition of marketing her
response was:
• “Spreading the word about your company for the chance to increase
your income.”
RECOMMENDATION
 I would recommend this job to someone that is very personable
like Samantha. Someone that is very driven and looking for a career
that is different every day. For someone that likes the knowledge of
knowing what you are basically going to walk into everyday this might
not be the career that would be the most suitable.
RECOMMENDATION
 Samantha works very hard everyday and has worked very hard to
build and maintain a very strong client list. With the right attitude,
education, talents, and skills the right person could be very successful
in this line of business.
