Sept. 2014 Newsletter, Beach Cities Chapter, IIA Page 1 of 6 NEWSLETTER PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Greetings everyone! Hope you had a great summer and are fully invigorated after the well-deserved vacations. This is my first opportunity to communicate with all the members of our chapter and may I begin by saying, what an honor it is to be your president. I am excited about this opportunity and am humbled by the trust you have placed in me and will make every endeavor to meet my responsibilities to the best of my ability. As you know, we have elected a new board and committee chairs, who are all eager to make the coming year a great one for all our members. I would like to thank the previous board members and committee chairs for a job well done and extend my heartfelt congratulations to the new board and committee chairs. We are already planning a year full of exciting events and plan to hold our first board meeting on September 3, 2014 to discuss, et al, the details of the events we are planning and when we can schedule these events. I have some exciting news to share with you! Our chapter has been recognized by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) as having achieved Platinum status in the 2013-14 year. This award has been given to our chapter because we achieved Gold level status for 10 consecutive years. The IIA is issuing the chapter a special certificate marking this great achievement, which we shall display in our future newsletter to our members when we receive the certificate. We are all very proud to have received this award and it reflects our members continued commitment to and participation in our chapter. Congratulations, Beach Cities Chapter! In April this year, I was privileged to attend the IIA 2014 Leadership Academy in Orlando, Florida and I would like to state that our chapter also won the IIA’s CIA Learning Center, Chapter of Excellence award for 2014. This award is given to those chapters who actively promote the IIA’s CIA Learning Center to its members by making the membership aware of the facility. So, if there are any members who are thinking about getting the coveted CIA designation, now is the time to enroll in this great program. Some of you may even qualify for a pay increase after passing the examination. A heads up to our chapter members! The IIA is planning a Western Regional conference in the fall of 2016 where all the IIA chapters in the Western U.S. will be participating. Some of you will recall a similar conference a few years ago and what a success that was. Our chapter leadership has already provided several volunteers who will participate in the various committees that are being formed to help make this Western Regional conference a great success. Stay tuned as the committees begin their planning and more information will be shared as progress is made. In closing, I am looking forward to your support and participation in the events we are planning and would appreciate hearing from you if you have any concerns, ideas and suggestions. Let’s make this a great year! Thanks. -Sher Shah, President, IIA-Beach Cities Chapter SEPTEMBER LUNCH MEETING Please join us for lunch and an informative presentation, and earn 1 CPE.
