Executive Summary
AEROMAG Corporation of Prescott Valley, AZ
requires a working model of a Lakota Compressed Air
Energy Turbine (CAET).
Lakota is an existing wind turbine, which will be
retrofitted to power a compressor. Lakota CAET is the
compressor and Lakota combination.
Lakota CAET facilitates compressed air energy
storage via a ground level pressure vessel for a
variety of applications.

Deliverables/Scope of Work
• Select Compressor and Seal
• Design/Analyze – Compressor Housing, Yaw
Assembly, & Shaft
• Develop Bench Test Procedure
• Produce Final Drawings (AutoCAD R14)
• AEROMAG Machines Parts needed for CAET Prototype
• Build and Bench Test Prototype
Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Functional Requirements
• Compressor geometry must not interfere with furling or flow
characteristics
• Compressed air transport must be incorporated into yaw
assembly
• Compressed air will be stored in pressure vessel
• Pressure vessel must exhaust excess air pressure
• 6 mph cut-in speed
• Survive wind speeds up to 120 mph
• Obtain maximum power between 8-9 mph
Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Nonfunctional Requirements
• Must utilize as much existing material as possible
• Design must meet AEROMAG’s aesthetic standards
• Design must be economically viable
• Ten year design life with one scheduled maintenance action
• Manufacturing drawings must utilize metric dimensions

Retrofit of Existing
Castings/Components
• Compressor and Seal Integration
• Shaft Coupling
• Machine Design / FE Model
• Manufacturing Drawings
Lakota CAET Team Capstone Design Presentation
Compressor Selection
• Oil-less
• One maintenance action every 5 years
• Size Constraints
– Overall length < 6 in.
• Weather Resistance (possible marine applications)
• Availability
