Reading and Writing – word reading and transcription - Follow spelling program covering etymology and
morphology, prefixes and suffixes and exceptions to rules. Use of dictionary and dictation.
Reading – comprehension – discussion of texts, reading aloud and recognising different forms of fiction.
Develop understanding through questioning using inference, deduction, purpose of words and justify
reasoning with evidence from the text.
Writing – handwriting – developing a consistent, legible script through practice and application.
Writing – composition – plan, draft and evaluate writing in order to produce a range of outcomes. Multiple
drafts are encouraged through the process of critique in order to proof read and improve so that the
meaning is clear.
Writing – vocabulary, grammar and punctuation – develop understanding of grammatical concepts including:
conjunctions, present and past tense verbs, pronouns, adverbs and prepositions and fronted adverbials.
Punctuation including commas, possessive apostrophes and direct speech.
