September 6th, 2011 Dear Parents and Students, Congratulations on being cast in the Piney Grove Players’ 2011 production of Willy Wonka Jr. The Piney Grove Fall Musical is an event that the students and staff of PGMS look forward to every year. Our past productions include Annie, Alice in Wonderland, and Guys and Dolls, with each production being bigger and better than the one before it. Students are involved in nearly every aspect of the show. They assist with vocal rehearsals and creating choreography, they help to build and paint sets and props, they are the stage crew, they help with hair, make-up, and costumes, and they sell tickets and distribute promotional flyers. The Fall Musical has something for everyone! In addition to putting on a show, students involved in the PGMS Fall Musical learn what it is like to work together to put on a large stage production. Students rely on each other to help learn their lines, to rehearse their dance routines, and even need each other's help getting their hair and make-up ready for the show! They learn to work together to achieve a goal, which is to put on a great show for a large audience, and they certainly do that! Students involved in the Fall Musical are also able to work on their own individual talents. Whether they are new to the stage or veterans of past PGMS productions, all the students involved become a little more confident and make some new friends along the way. The 2011 Fall Musical, Willy Wonka, will surely be the same type of splendid production and will afford Piney Grove Students the same engaging opportunities of being involved in every aspect of bringing a Broadway show to life on the stage. This year's production will require a bit more as far as costumes, scenery, and props are concerned, as the script takes us through the colorful, imaginative, sometimes surreal, always “larger-than-life” world of Willy Wonka, the famous candy creator. To assist us with purchasing the rights to perform the show, scripts, costumes, props, and materials needed to build the sets, cast members will need to pay a production fee of $60. This fee will cover the cost of each cast member’s script and cast t-shirt, and will also help to purchase set building materials, props, and costumes for the show, in addition to paying for the use of the South Forsyth High School Performing Arts Center. This production fee is due to Mrs. Steinberg no later than Friday September 23rd. We are also in need of parent volunteers to help with this production. Please see the Parent Time & Talents form to see how you can be of assistance. If the level of student involvement and achievement of last year’s production is any indicator, I would say we can expect great things from the cast of Willy Wonka Jr. The next few months are going to be very exciting! As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns. Regards, Mrs. Amanda Steinberg Drama Director, Piney Grove Middle School awrittenhouse@forsyth.k12.ga.us 678-965-5010 ext. 381262
