The school opened in the fall of 1957 and graduated its first senior class in the spring of 1958. Hall is accredited by The North Central Association of Secondary Schools and holds membership in The College Board and it remains one of only two Arkansas public schools admitted (1963) to the National Cum Laude Society, the high school equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa. Hall High School follows the Key Practices of High Schools That Work and the Design Tasks of America’s Choice. Hall receives funds from: Smaller Learning Community Grant, 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, a School Improvement Grant, & Title I. The Mission Through effective instruction and appropriate assessment, with the involvement of family and community, Hall High faculty and staff will work collaboratively to create a safe, positive learning environment in which students from diverse cultures will gain the essential knowledge and skills to become productive citizens in a global society. The Curriculum The academic program is organized on a rotating block schedule. A maximum load is 8 credits per semester with students carrying eight 90-minute block classes. Students attend four block classes daily. A minimum of 26 units is required for graduation. ½ unit=1semester; 1 unit=1 year. Graduation requirements include: 4 units English, 3 units mathematics, 3 units science, 3 units social studies, ½ unit Oral Communications, ½ unit English Language Arts, ½ unit Physical Education, ½ unit Health & Safety, 1 unit Fine Arts, 6 units of a Career Focus, and 3 ½ units of electives. The Little Rock Scholars Curriculum requires a total of 28 units: 4 units English, 4 units Mathematics, 4 units science, 4 units social studies, ½ unit Oral Communications, ½ unit English Language Arts, 2 units of one foreign language, ½ unit Physical Education, ½ unit Health & Safety, 1 unit Fine Arts, 6 units of a Career Focus, and 1 ½ units of electives. Advanced Placement & Concurrent Credit Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in U.S. History, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, English III, English IV, European History, Calculus AB & BC, Computer Science, Statistics, Spanish Language, French Language, United States Government, World History, Comparative Government, Psychology, Studio Art Drawing, Studio Art 2D, Studio Art 3D, and Art History. Concurrent Credit/Dual Enrollment courses are offered through the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) and the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) for the following: English Composition I & II, U.S. History I & II, Physics I & II, Biology I & II, Sociology, Psychology, Communications, Calculus and College Algebra. Grading and Ranking Hall assigns letter grades using a 4.0 system. Letter grades are assigned as follows: A = 90% - 100%; B = 80% - 89%; C = 70% - 79%; D = 60% - 69%; F = 59% and less. Advanced Placement courses are weighted by one point for any student who passes the AP course and takes the AP exam. Concurrent Credit Classes are weighted by one point EXCEPT Communications and College Algebra. All credit classes are included in computing grade point average and class rank. Grades are recorded on the transcript, and class rank and grade point average are computed in January and May.
