WHAT ARE DIRECT

ACCESS GRANTS?

Grants provide funding to eligible non-profit organizations for delivery of approved on-going programs to their communities.

Delivered program must have been operated for at least 12 months prior to application.

Funding for any combination of program costs and minor capital project costs may be approved to a maximum of $100,000 annually .

 Only one application for a Direct

Access Program grant will be accepted per government fiscal year.

 A separate Application for a Major

Capital Project Grant may also be submitted.

 Each application is assessed on its own merit and demonstrated community need.

In 2005/06, approximately 6,300 community organizations will receive an estimated $137 million in gaming grants.

GRANT GUIDELINES

 An application does not guarantee any level of funding.

 The requested amount may not be approved and the approved amount may vary from year to year.

 Gaming commission will only fund up to 75% of the program cost.

 The other 25% is to be made up of fundraising, municipal contributions and in-kind support.

 In-kind support may be in any combination of

– volunteer time

– donated labour,

– equipment,

– services and materials from other sources.

Valuation of volunteerism and donations is based on:

 Donated materials at verified fair market value

 Donated accredited professional services at verified fair market value

 General labour (e.g., admin support) @ $10/hr

 Skilled labour (i.e., Marketing, Communications,

Tech Support) @ $25/hr

Complete records of all volunteered hours and donated services/ materials must be retained as part of the your gaming records.

THE GRANT APPLICATION

SECTION 1- Program Type

 Apply for grant funding under the “Human &

Social Services Program ” sector. We are defined as a program that “ significantly contribute(s) to the quality of life in a community, including… promoting health or enhancing opportunities for youth.

 Do not apply under the Service Organization.

This meant for groups such as Legions, Rotary

Clubs and other such organizations.

The Cadet Corps is not allowed to “acquire assets” (other

than DND assets that are on loan to them) so they depend on the sponsoring committee to acquire and “own” those assets.

SECTION 2 – Administrative Information

 Full name of organization, mailing address

 Number of members eligible to vote at your Annual

General Meeting (which is basically all the parents or guardians of the cadets, members at large, honorary members and anyone else who your charter specifies as holding membership)

 Number of people who directly benefit from all of your organization’s programs and services ( typically the number of cadets the Corp has or has a quota for)

SECTION 3 – Program Funding Request

 List the programs for which you are seeking grant funding and indicate the amount being requested for each program.

 Attach an additional sheet for each program listed and make sure to complete the items in

Section 5 as well.

 The TOTAL GRANT REQUEST cannot exceed

SECTION 4 - Certification

Consists of a signed declaration by the treasurer and another Executive acting on behalf of the Sponsoring committee, declaring that:

 They are bona fide board members

 They are certifying the information on the application is complete and true.

Separate program information must be completed for each program listed under

Section 3 “Program - Funding Request”.

Each must include:

 What will their involvement with the program bring or provide benefits to them

What do your new recruits begin their training with and what do they move on to?

 What are they required to participate in?

 What other optional programs of interest do you promote for them to participate in?

 What community events does your corps participate in throughout the year?

 What challenges or shortfalls do you face, preventing you from implementing the program that you have talked about in the previous points?

Part 2 - Program Assessment:

Attach an outline indicating how this program demonstrates:

Clear community benefit

Accessibility and inclusiveness

Is there opportunity for others to participate in the program, regardless of age, ability, ethnicity, gender, religion, income or sexual orientation, wherever possible?

Sustainability and lasting impact

What potential lasting impact and benefit does the program pass to the community?

Community support

What are the financial and in-kind contributions (donated cash, labour, professional services, equipment, materials) from corporate sponsors or individual donors?

Is the program supported by people knowledgeable about the program?

SECTION 5 – Program Information

Part 3 - Financial Information Required:

Gaming Account Summary Report for previous fiscal year (if applicable).

 Complete annual financial statements for your organization’s previous fiscal year, including:

 Revenue and expense statement clearly showing gaming funds

(if applicable) as a separate entry.

 Federal or provincial government funding for this program, including grant monies, must be clearly identified.

 Previous year's actual revenues and expenditures for the program.

 Balance sheet listing all assets and liabilities of the organization and with restricted funds identified. Current and next year’s program budget detailing confirmed and potential revenue sources and all planned expenditures for the program.

SECTION 6 – Enclosure Checklist

 Incomplete applications will generally be returned to the applicant without being processed.

 List and ensure all enclosures are complete and included with your application.

 **Note that this information must be kept up-to-date. If there are any changes to this information it MUST be submitted with your next grant application.

EVERY GRANT APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE:

1) ORGANIZATION INFORMATION

 Changes to Constitution or Bylaws since your organization’s last application.

Up-to-dated list of the Board of Directors, showing names, positions on the Board, home addresses, home telephone and fax numbers, occupations and places of employment.

Last annual general meeting minutes, including number of voting members that attended.

2) PROGRAM INFORMATION

 Financial Information including current and next year’s program budget detailing confirmed and potential revenue sources and all planned expenditures. Federal or provincial government funding, including contract or grant monies, must be clearly identified.

 Previous year's actual revenues and expenditures.

 Late or incomplete applications will generally be returned to the applicant without being processed. As well, faxed applications will not be accepted

 The earlier your application is submitted, the earlier funds are granted.

Do not wait until the last week.
