Judy Bowman and everyone who shared in our ministry today. Welcome to worship at First Grantham United Church. We are so glad that you are here. It was very much appreciated. Jackie and Stan Hetherington This past Monday, February 1, Mary Kivell's mother Adeline Pappain died in Burlington at the age of 94. Adeline was a longtime resident of Burlington and a well-respected member of the Wellington Square United Church community. She will be missed by many, in many spaces, but none more so than her beloved children and grandchildren. They cherished her, and she them. In keeping with Adeline's wishes, they are planning for a graveside memorial service in the spring, in Brantford, and have asked that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Adeline's memory to the Joseph Brant Hospital Auxiliary. Mary and her family are very grateful for your love and care, particularly through these last few months, and know that they will continue to be surrounded by faithful concern and prayers. If you would like to give Mary a card, please feel free to bring it into the office and when Bev returns, she will hand deliver the cards to Mary. NEW FROM THE LIBRARY:(Biography) Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog & the Triumph of Trust by Michael Hingson with Susy Flory. On Sunday January 24, in her sermon Rev Jennie Stevens talked about a guide dog, Roselle, and how she guided her companion, Micheal Hingson who in his own words happens to be blind, down 70+ flights of stairs during the attacks on the World Trade Centre. Imagine hearing all the noise of shattering glass, terrified people and not being able to what was happening. An amazing story of a man and his special dog. Kay Houghton -5Out of the Cold: Thank you for your donations of toiletries in the past. Once again, we are asking for your help in donating the following items: toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, lotion, razors and lip balm. Thank you. Local Focus Group Reminder – The Christian Service Committee, on behalf of the congregation, chooses a local group to support for a two year term. We continue to support the Red Roof Retreat in 2016. This is a local organization which provides respite, support and activities for special needs children and adults. This group runs their programs from a rural property in the Virgil area and the lower level of Ina Grafton Gage facility. Fund raising plus budgeted monies go to support this very important work in our community. FIRST GRANTHAM FRIENDSHIP GROUP invites one and all to card games on Friday, February 19 at 1:30 pm in the Fellowship Room. Tea and cookies and good fellowship. Members, please bring your mug. -6If you have volunteered to be a Greeter for 2016 and do not have a new list for this year, please see Nola Brown following the service in the Ruby Carroll Hall. A covenant with the United Church of Canada’s Mission and Service Fund has been made for 2016. We will continue committing to $30,000 plus The UCW commits $3000 as well for a total of $30,000. This has been our commitment in years past which the congregation meets and often surpasses. It is also the largest contributing of any church in the Niagara Presbytery. The committee very much appreciates the ongoing support of the congregation in all their activities. You are putting your faith into action!
