Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT), program of the Emory-Tibet

Foundation Course – Offered each spring and fall by Dr. Lobsang Negi. Two
options are available: the 8 week format (once weekly, 7 pm – 9 pm) and the
intensive format (two weekends, all day Saturday and Sunday)
Meditation at Emory (beginners welcome to drop in to these three groups)
Mondays, 6pm. Meditation Club – Primarily graduate students but open to all!
Guided and silent meditations every week. Cannon Chapel, ground floor, room 106.
Wednesdays, 5 pm. Guided Meditation Practice, based on CBCT. Led by Bobbi
Patterson, Professor from the Department of Religion, and trained CBCT instructor.

Thursdays, 6pm. Emory Buddhist club offers a different type of meditation every
week of the month (e.g., Zen, Compassion/Tibetan-based, etc.), led by community

Drepung Loseling Monastery, Inc.

Lobsang Negi (Emory) or other certified CBCT instructors.
Basics of Meditation is taught every 1st Sunday of the month, by Geshe Lobsang
Tenzin, PhD, Emory Faculty, at 11 am. Other programs and other regular
opportunities also available per the website. Beginners welcome.
Atlanta Shambhala Meditation Center: Meditation instruction for beginners
offered for free every Tuesday evening and on Sundays at 10am. Weekly
meditation sessions Tuesday evenings, Weds evenings, and every morning.

Wherever You Go, There You Are
 Jon Kabat-Zinn (MD, founder of Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, a basic
book on meditation practice. A bit more conceptual.)
Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life’s Most Important Skill
 Mathieu Ricard. (Western cell biologist and experienced meditator/monk.) Very
clear, accessible explanation of a healthy and workable perspective on cultivating
well-being. Also available as an entertaining 2 CD audiobook by the author.
Taking the Leap: Freeing Ourselves from Old Habits and Fears; or
When Things Fall Apart.
 2 books by Pema Chodron (Western Buddhist Nun, author of many books and
audio recordings, translating Buddhist psychology to the west). Very accessible
writing.
