Facts & figures: teachers
• Approximately 1.500 retirements each year and 1.000
turnovers
• 2/3 teachers hold a upper secondary degree or
higher, but teachers in primary education in remote
schools often only have a grade 9 degree
• 44% of the teaching force is female and 10% of school
directors are female
• >50% of all teachers is younger than 40 and about 63%
of the teachers in remote areas is younger than 30

Facts & figures: entrance exams
Scoring procedure and policy:
• exams are scored at the Teacher Training
Department
• prioritized applicants receive extra points: ethnic
minorities, contract teachers or individuals from
remote and disadvantaged areas
• female applicants don’t receive extra points but
are given preference over men with equal scores
• applicants with a higher score can choose the
training centre of their liking
• if number of applicants exceeds yearly quota they
are put on a reserve list
