INTERNATIONAL BRAIN IMAGING SYMPOSIUM: THALAMUS AND BASAL GANGLIA IN HEALTH AND DISEASE On 28 April Ambassador Robin Barnett gave the opening speech at the International Brain Imaging Symposium: Thalamus and Basal Ganglia in Health and Disease organized by the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology in Warsaw under the patronage of Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The Ambassador spoke about UK-Poland cooperation in scientific field and underlined the important role of innovative researches on structural and functional brain imaging. The Symposium was graced with presence of Lady Munster from United Kingdom, who supports development of science within the framework of Polish-British cooperation, and patronize many scientific associations and foundations. The Symposium was an occasion for meeting specialists in the field of brain imaging – from United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Poland, and it starts the project of wide-ranging research in the Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology (grant from National Science Centre). The research plan of the project involves: research in patients with thalamic stroke (by means of neuroimaging techniques facility), aimed at improving efficacy and effectiveness of thalamic lesion therapy and relevant rehabilitation programs, and research on cognition of the role of thalamus and basal ganglia. In the evening participants of the Symposium enjoyed the concert of Christopher Hogwood with Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra & Chorus at Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall. WELCOME...
