Proverbs 31
I. Mothers’ teaching and WARNINGS (Verse 1-9)
“The words of King Lemuel, the oracle which his mother
taught him”
Why should verse 10 be taught to all boys?
How does being virtuous change the way that you see God's
plan for you?
What is said about her conduct in verse 26?
A. She warns him about the vices that destroy lives:
 Avoid immorality
 Avoid wine and strong drink
B. Be a righteous King, leader. Judge correctly and be an
advocate of the afflicted and needy.
Who sings her praises? Why this response?
Friday
Read Luke 10:38-42. What are a few ways that you could
make more time to be like Mary and sit at Jesus' feet?
Are these attributes of a Godly woman really attainable? Why
or why not?
What is the greatest hindrance developing these attributes?
As a husband or father what can you do to help your wife or
daughter in becoming this kind of woman?
What could you do to become more like the woman God wants
you to be?

What is the one verse in Proverbs 31 that you would most like
to accomplish?

II. Mothers know a wife’s WORTH (Verse 10)
“An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above
jewels.”
A. She’s described as having moral excellence, being
extremely capable, strong, and intelligent.
B. Because of these attributes, she is rare and priceless!
III. She is a missional WIFE (Verses 11-12)
“The heart of her husband trusts in her, And he will have no
lack of gain. She does him good and not evil All the days of
her life.”
A. Priorities govern her life. Loving God and being obedient to
His word, caring for her household and blessing her husband.
B. Her husband relies on her and trusts her completely.
C. Her reputation and diligence brings her husband honor
and allows him to minister. (23)
IV. She is an enterprising WORKER (Verses 13-19)
“She considers a field and buys it; From her earnings she
plants a vineyard.” (Verse 16)
Daily Meditations
Use this as an opportunity to spend some time meditating on
today’s message.
A. She creatively serves her household (13-15)
Monday
What words of wisdom did your mother teach you?
B. She makes land deals and investments and makes time
for a little Pilates. She has a strong moral character. (17)
Why are the warnings in verses 3-7 still valuable today?
C. She is frugal and prepares for the next day. (18)
Why the warning about women and wine?
V. She is a compassionate WOMAN (Verses 20-25)
“She extends her hand to the poor, And she stretches out
her hands to the needy.”
What are verses 8-9 teaching? How are we to do this today?
Do you know any women like the one described in this
proverb? What do you appreciate the most about her?
A. She has compassion for others. She has the love of
Christ for others. Her hands are extended to the poor and
needy willing to do whatever is needed.
Tuesday
What can we do to value the women in our lives?
B. Plans for the future and takes care of her family. (21)
In what way can this parable change how we see women and
their roles?
C. She cares about her appearance and character. (22-25)
VI. She speaks with WISDOM (Verse 26)
“She opens her mouth in wisdom, And the teaching of
kindness is on her tongue.”
What would you say are this woman’s top three priorities? Is
there a lesson here for all of us?
What does this woman do for her husband?
A. Her communication is wise, instructive and gentle.
Is this proverb a to-do list or is it guidelines for our instruction?
Explain your answer.
VII. She lives a life of WORSHIP (Verses 29-30)
“Many daughters have done nobly, But you excel them all.”
Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who
fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”

What characteristic of a Proverbs 31 woman are not generally
appreciated in our culture today?
A. Nothing is as beautiful as the woman who loves the Lord.
