your spouse to get status as well.

If you are the one applying for
your PGPW, you would be the
principal applicant and can

will not be dependent on anyone

If you apply for a study permit,
you are not eligible for the
PGWP.

documents to upload.

If you are applying for your spouse, they are eligible to work in Canada on an open work permit while you study. You
can select “work with an Open Work Permit”. They can choose to work or not with this status.
If you are applying for your children and they will be attending school, you would likely select “study more than 6
months”.

Unless you are letting another person contact CIC on your behalf to discuss your file, you would select
“NO”.

If you answer “NO” then you cannot apply online and it will tell you to mail in your
application and documents.
You have the choice to pay at a bank but that means you cannot apply online and must submit your
application in the mail. For details, review the “Pay Fees” section of the Instruction Guide.

computer. When you
are done, click on the
“validate” button inside
the file.
A letter of explanation is an optional letter you can type that explains your application to the visa
officer. It is always recommended that you write one in order to explain what you are applying for
and clarify things in your application.

• If you have a spouse or dependents, your document checklist will
include additional files and applications. Your fees may also be more
than the base $255.

• If you are applying for a PGWP for the first time after being a student, you
would want “An initial work permit or a work permit with a new employer”

• It can be found on your study permit. It is written in black ink and found on
the top, right hand corner of your permit. It starts with one letter followed by
a series of numbers.
• What is a DLI Number?
• It means Designated Learning Institute Number. UOIT’s DLI is O19315945002
