Equal Employment Opportunity Law
This law started in 1941 with the federal
defense contracts. President Roosevelt
issued executive order 8802 calling for
forbidding discrimination in hiring
practices in companies that had defense
contracts.

President Kennedy created the Committee on
Equal Employment Opportunity. The
committee only dealt with workplace
discrimination in companies that had contracts
with the federal government. This did not
include the private sector businesses.
President Johnson, in 1964, signed the Civil
Rights Act, charging the committee to address
the discrimination in all areas of employment.
