PERSONAL PROFILE:

Film and Media Technology, in particular Post Production, is my chosen direction as I find it is a subject I can get totally absorbed in. My interest in recording and editing videos started around age 10, when my friends and I used to make short action videos and then edit these into short films using a range of visual and audio effects.

Video production gives me the opportunity to be at my most creative, whilst also engaging my strong interest in technology and how new forms of media are developing via the Internet and the spread of mobile devices. Alongside this I am continuing to develop and adapt my skills and capability with the main software packages, producing a range of content for school based projects and in my own time.

I have found that my current academic studies provide me with a good blend of learning to support my future ambitions, with Physics and ICT providing an emphasis on practical and technology oriented matters and

History providing a valuable balance through understanding the reasons behind major changes in the world and how this has been influenced by the media.

For example, for my main project in Year 13, I have chosen to study the Vietnam War, which represented a major shift in politics in America driven to a large extent by increased media reporting and video footage of what was happening on the ground.

My longer term ambition is to work in the media industry and I have taken the opportunity to make contact with the Head of Post Production for ITV in Manchester, recently spending time with him to get a greater insight into the industry and what more I could be doing now and in the near future to help me be successful. This also provided a great opportunity to discuss University courses and a potential study route through to a career in the industry.

Outside my academic interests, I have set myself a number of personal goals to broaden my understanding and experience of the world. One of these is to have a greater appreciation of Europe, its history and its diverse cultures, and I was lucky enough this summer to spend two weeks travelling through Europe to visit key historical cities and sites in Belgium, Holland, Germany and parts of Eastern Europe.

This has helped me significantly in terms of developing my knowledge, but also in practical skills such as planning and organising a schedule, and increasing my confidence in travelling and being self-sufficient, something that I believe is good preparation for University life.

More broadly I have a range of interests and have played a number of different sports for school teams. My main passion is football and I have played for a local team for a number of years.

I have also developed my social skills through work experience in customer facing roles with local businesses. In particular, I enjoyed my time spent working at a Marriott hotel, gaining an understanding of how such a business is run and the strong focus placed on excellent customer service.

In conclusion, I am deeply committed to my current A2 studies and to gaining as much knowledge and experience as I can during my final year in Sixth Form. I have a real desire to further my achievements in Film and Media Technology, through studying for a degree at University, and feel this is my true vocation. I respectfully ask that you consider my application favourably by giving me an opportunity to study with you.
