SUMMER SCHOOL 2013 INSTRUCTOR APPLICATION Dear Prospective Summer School Teacher, Thank you for your interest in applying to teach during Premier Learning Choices (PLC) Summer School Program, 2013. Premier Learning Choices is a non-profit corporation whose specific and primary purpose is to enhance student learning and provide financial support to teachers and CNUSD staff. Monies raised by Premier Learning Choices will be provided to the Corona-Norco Schools Educational Foundation, which has given over $500,000 back to teachers and staff of the District over the past three years. Planning is underway to ensure an exceptional fee-based summer program for children in our local communities. We are seeking elementary, intermediate and high school teachers for enrichment and proficiency classes designed for students entering grades 4-6 and 9-12. 2013 Summer School dates are as follows: Grades 4-6 (ES): Monday, June 3 – Friday, July 12, 2013 from 8:00 am – 12:20 pm. Grades 9-12 (HS): Monday, June 3 – Friday, July 12, 2013 from 8:00 am – 12:20 pm. *Drivers Education classes will be offered at 7:50-10:00 and 10:20-12:30 during the second session due to the July 4th holiday, and a required 30 hours of instruction. The wage is $40.00 per hour for instructional time, plus 1 hour for an orientation meeting and 1 hour for a program evaluation and records turn-in on the last day of school. July 4th is a designated nonworking unpaid holiday. These positions are non-benefited, with no paid illness or accrued vacation time, and have NO contributions towards STRS or PERS. Teachers at the elementary level must submit an outline of their proposed curriculum in one of the following areas: math, science, Language Arts/social studies, and the Arts. Writing is an expected outcome in all content areas. You may use the Course Proposal section of this application or attach a separate sheet detailing your class. Keep in mind the following: Students will be expected to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and synthesize learning through writing, oral presentation, or other performance tasks Students will be involved in project based learning that will support deep understanding and knowledge of grade-span appropriate concepts. High interest format such as games, interactive, and/or movement activities along with collaboration and small group learning is encouraged. Expository text should be used to support opportunities for learning. Objectives, activities, and materials must be specified. Expected outcomes must be stated along with how mastery will be determined. To teach a pre-determined high school course, (Drivers Ed., PSAT/SAT Prep, Student Technology, Bridge to College and Preparing for Algebra II/Trigonometry), mark the class(es) you would like to teach. Upon submission, your proposal will be reviewed and you may be contacted should clarification be necessary. All submissions are subject to screening and/or rejection. To be accepted as a summer school teacher, you must be willing to teach both periods for the entire 6 weeks. 2013 Summer School Application Form v1 1112 1 A brief Course Requirement for the teachers interested in the High School Courses is as follows: Drivers Education - This applicant must possess the required certificate and be knowledgeable of the DMV 30 hour course requirements and have the ability to issue the Learner’s permit at the conclusion of the class. PSAT/SAT Prep – This applicant must possess knowledge of SAT preparation and test taking strategies in order to prepare students for the math, verbal and written portions of the PSAT/SAT tests. In depth knowledge of the rigors of the test is required. Student Technology – This applicant must possess strong skills in Microsoft Office, and MAC programs. The goal of this class is for the student to be able to effectively produce documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and more using technology that will help students with their homework and school projects. Pre-Algebra II/Trigonometry – This applicant must possess strong presentation skills in higher levels of math, to include Algebra II and Trigonometry. The goal of this class is to prepare students who will be enrolled in Algebra II/Trigonometry in the Fall. The course should focus on topics that are seen for the first time in Algebra II/Trigonometry, to include logarithms, exponential functions, conic sections, probability and trigonometry. Bridge to College – This applicant must be familiar with all aspects of college preparedness. The goal of this class is for students to learn how to successfully write a college application essay, choose the right college or university, apply for scholarships, complete a college application, and complete a FAFSA application.
