Literature and Composition I: Vocabulary: Directions and Lists for the entire Semester- 2014
The following are the lists of vocabulary that you will be learning this semester.
LISTS 1, 2, 7 and 12 are starred (*) because ALL students in the class will be responsible for ALL of the words
on those lists.
For all of the remaining lists (3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11):
HONORS students will be responsible for learning all TWENTY words on each list.
COLLEGE PREP ADVANCED students will be responsible for learning the first FIFTEEN words on each list.
COLLEGE PREP students will be responsible for learning the first TEN words on each list.
* On Monday night for homework, you MUST look up the words. For each word, find the part of speech
and the most frequently used definition.
This will count as a HOMEWORK grade.
You must have both the part of speech and the definition for EVERY word in order to receive full credit
for the assignment.
* I will check and go over the definitions on Tuesday at the start of class.
* Some weeks, on Thursday at the beginning of class you will be asked to complete a worksheet that will
require you to correctly place the week’s vocabulary words into sentences. This will serve as a review for
Friday’s Quiz.
* On Friday each week, you will be given a QUIZ on the week’s Vocabulary words.
So, each week your Vocabulary will be counted as two separate grades: one HOMEWORK grade
one QUIZ grade
**NOTE: There are 20 weeks in the semester and only 12 Vocabulary Lists. That means there will be some
weeks when you will not be responsible for the Vocabulary. I will let you know when those weeks occur.
The form of the Quiz will vary each week and will be different for each level (matching
words and definitions; filling in the blanks of sentences with the correct word)
PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR KEEPING THIS LIST IN YOUR BINDER/NOTEBOOK ALL
SEMESTER.
