Metal Work- Fire Companion Set with A4 Story Board (Open) Competitors will be required to make a 3 piece fire companion set completely from metal apart from the brush, the set is to consist of a poker, brush and a shovel on an upright stand and have a traditional fire black finish. Health and Safety of the use of the final item must be kept in mind at all times, i.e. prevention of being burnt when using the item. Competitors must include an A4 story board detailing how it was made and illustrated with photographs. Competitors are to supply these three ingredients on the day. Girls Hanging a gate (Open) A team of two to hang a gate. Gate and hanging are provided. Tools and PPE to be brought by competitor, no power tools allowed. Time allowed- maximum 15 minutes 20. Handwritten Letter (Inter) Competitor to write a letter of thanks to the host farm in front of the judge, and be presented in a handwritten addressed envelope Competitor to provide own pen, paper and envelope Judged on content and presentation Time allowed- 15 minutes, including planning time 21. Hair Put up (Open) Hair to be styled for a wedding Any suitable ornamentation or headdress can be used in keeping with the style chosen,No hairpieces or extensions to be used, Nothing prepared, Provide Own life model, No electric available, Small Table and a Chair will be provided Time allowed- Maximum 1 hour 22. “Scrap Heap Challenge,” Self Propelled vehicle (Senior) To make a self propelled vehicle from scrap. It should be suitable to travel on rough terrain, and be demonstrated on the day by completing a short course. Points will be awarded for initiative To be displayed in an area of 1m x 1m x 1m. Shovelling a Material Team of two, 1 male, 1 female; 1 inter, 1 senior The team will be supplied with a measured amount of material which will be moved completely from one location to another specified location. Animals/crops will be designated A, B, X and Y. All competitors must wear a white coat. During the competition no other paper than provided must be used, and no literature may be used. Competitors will be allowed 15 minutes for inspection and handling of the stock and each competitor will be allowed up to 2 minutes for stating their reasons. Competitors exceeding this time limit will incur penalties at the rate of 2 marks for each 15 seconds or part thereof 1. Tractor Handling NAFD (Senior) Tractor Handling NAFD (Inter) Pedal Tractor Handling NAFD (Junior) ATV- Side by Side Handling NFYFC Page | 6 Southern District Rules- 9th February 2014 These are the rules for Southern District Field day- the NFYFC rules will applied at the next round A team shall consist of two members, one Inter and one Senior, both competitors are required to hold a full current UK Drivers License and show their photo card ID at the commencement of the competition For the ATV Handling: a certificate that confirms that adequate training has been undertaken in ATV handling must be produced on the day, a copy of the certificate must be handed to the judge on the day, failure to supply will result in the team being disqualified. At least one member of the team must hold a current first aid certificate of a national recognised body. The certificate must be no more than 3 years old. The training and qualification must be certificate in competence in either “First Aid at Work” or “Emergency First Aid at Work” or be a “Doctor, Nurse of Paramedic.” A copy of the certificate must be handed to the competition judge on the day, failure to provide this will result in the team being disqualified and not allowed to compete Using a John Deere Gator/Kubota RTV/ Kawasaki Mule type side by side ATV Task 1- Both team members are required to carry out daily maintenance and safety checks on the vehicle prior to commencing the tasks. Competitors will be required to carry out a verbal risk assessment with the judge on relevant part of the tasks that they will be completing- this section will be timed- 5 minutes Task 2- One competitor will be required to drive the vehicle through a set course, negotiating various obstacles and terrain- this section will be timed- 5 minutes. They will be required to reverse it through one part of the same course, manoeuvring the vehicle to a set point where the trailer is ready to be hitched. Task 3- Both team members working together are required to hitch the trailer Task 4- the other competitor will drive forwards through the same set course with the loaded trailer, manoeuvre that trailer through various obstacles and reverse into “set” garages. The 15 minute time limit will only commence when the second competitor begins his/her section of the driving. Marks will be deducted if either the vehicle or trailer hits any set obstacles. The number of attempts at each obstacle will also be taken into consideration. The emphasis of the competition will be on skill, balance and safe operation of the machine. One mark per minute or part thereof will be deducted for over time. Marked on time taken to complete the whole task 5. Drive it home NFYFC (Inter) These are the rules for Southern District Field day- the NFYFC rules will applied at the next round A Team of two members, one of which must hold a current UK driving license Part one- Competitors will be given a serious of pictures in relation to road safety and hazard perception Part two- Both competitors will be asked to work as a team to explain to the judge the checks that should be routinely carried out to a road vehicle. These will include: coolant level, oil level, tyres/wheels, wiper/washers, lights, braking system and overall vehicle condition- Maximum 5 minutes Part three- Both competitors working as a team will be asked to change a wheel on the vehicle provided. Competitors may, if they wish use their own hand tools (no power tools allowed). Page | 7 Southern District Rules- 9th February 2014 - Judges will have the right to stop the wheel change if the activity is unsafe for any reason, including potential damage to the vehicle. Maximum 20 minutes FASHION All competitors will be required to submit their garments for judging on the morning of the competition with receipts. All fashion exhibits should be newly made in the 12 months before Field day and be the unaided work of the competitor named. 6. Fashion NAFD (Junior) To make and model a badge/medal that will be presented to Soldiers 7. Fashion NAFD (Inter) To adapt and model an Armed Forces Uniform 8. Fashion NAFD (Senior) To make and model an outfit suitable for the Pride of Britain Awards Ceremony 9. Digger Challenge (Senior) A course must be completed in the time allowed by the judge. The judge will describe the challenge ahead of the start of the time limit. 10. Sheep ShearingEliminators will be held at Hill Park on Tuesday 13th May from 1900 prompt. Top 4 from each category to compete on the Field Day The competitor shearing the sheep will be judged on condition of fleece, absence of second cuts in fleece, manner of handling sheep, absence of cuts in sheep and appearance of shorn sheep. When wrapping the fleece they will be judged on their ability, skill and competence. 10.1 Inter Hand To Catch and shear 2 sheep and wrap the fleeces in 20 minutes. Own shears to be used. 10.2 Open Hand (NAFD) To catch and shear 2 sheep and wrap the fleeces in 15 minutes. Competitor must have a Certificate of Competence . 10.3 Inter Machine To catch and shear 2 sheep and wrap the fleeces in 12 minutes. A 12 volt machine will be provided, competitors to bring their own hand piece and combs and cutters 10.4 Open Machine (NAFD) A team of 2 Competitors are required to shear 3 sheep and wrap the fleeces. Competitor one to shear and Competitor two to wrap. Competitor must have a Certificate of Competence A 12 volt machine will be provided, competitors to bring their own hand piece and combs and cutters. Team of 8, maximum of 2 over 16 and the rest over 18. No steel toe capped boots. Top 4 teams to compete at the Field Day (no substitution of team members allowed). 580kg weight limit for full team. Haka Dance Team of at least 6 members, at least one of each sex, to perform a Haka Dance, Time allowed: - maximum 5 minutes 11. Hand Pumping Challenge (Open) Competitors to empty dispensers in the quickest time 12. Half a Yard of Ale, Senior (NAFD) To be held on 4th May at the Farmers Arms Lowick Competitors must be over 18 Competitors are to drink half a yard of ale in the quickest time Spillages will be taken into account. Own Ale to be provided 13. Yard of Ale- Male, Senior (NAFD) Competitors must be over 18 Competitors are to drink a yard of ale in the quickest time Spillages will be taken into account. Own Ale to be provided 14. Stars in your eyes, Senior (NAFD) Team of at least 2 members, maximum 6 members, and at least one of each sex The team are to perform a musical act. They must provide their own music on a CD if required. Can use a musical instrument. Time allowed:- Maximum 5 minutes 15. Leader and Advisory Tug of War A team of 8, with a minimum of 2 of the opposite sex. Knock out style competition. 16. Snake Challenge, Junior A team of two to construct the longest snake possible out of play dough without any breakages occurring. If the snake splits the longest section will be measured, it cannot be rejoined. Play dough will be provided. Time allowed:- unlimited 17. Finale Obstacle Course Team of 6:- 2 Junior, 2 Inter and 2 senior with at least 2 members of each sex. To be done in fancy dress to the theme “Farming in the Year 3000” THESE RULES MUST BE ADHERED TO OR IT WILL RESULT IN INSTANT DISQUALIFICATION. Broughton Page | 10 Southern District Rules- 9th February 2014 THE CUMBRIA FEDERATION OF YOUNG FARMERS CLUBS SOUTHERN DISTRICT FIELD DAY GENERAL RULES 2014 1. Competitors must be bona fide members of their respective YFC and be within the age range as specified in the details of the competition: a. Junior- 16 years of age or under on 1st September 2013 b. Inter- 21 years of age or under on 1st September 2013 c. Senior- 26 years of age or under on 1st September 2013 2. Each club may be represented by one individual or one team in each event 3. The Chief Steward has the FINAL SAY on queries, in consultation with the steward in each class. The steward should read out the rules before the start of any competition which takes place on the day. Any exhibit that does not adhere to the rules will be disqualified. 4. The Cumbria Federation of YFCs will not be held responsible for any expenses incurred by the Competitors for any loss or accident which may occur 5. All competitors MUST report to the Steward 10 minutes before a competition is scheduled to start. Those arriving late will be allowed to compete only at the discretion of the Steward. Each Competitor must, before the competition, show his/her membership card to the steward 6. In instances of dispute, a complaint should be made in writing to the Secretary’s Office at the Field Day no later than 30 minutes after the announcement of the results of the competition. Each complaint should be accompanied by a £5 deposit, which shall be returnable if justified. Field Day Officials and County Officials shall investigate any complaint made. 7. Marks will be awarded out of 100 per class, except County Display D1 which will be marked out of 400 and Class D2 which will be marked out of 200 8. Club leaders, Trainers and Competitors should read carefully and understand the wording of all competitions so that the question of disqualification does not arise. The judges decision is final. 9. White coats/aprons must be worn during all Stock judging, Flower Arranging and Cookery events. If not worn, the competitor may be disqualified 10. Long oblong scorecards must be shown with static exhibits. They must be folded over from the bottom to cover the names of the competitor and Club. The fold must be sellotaped and the Club number must NOT be shown. The Club Number should be noted under the fold. Make sure you complete the sign-in sheet for each item when placed to be judged. The competitors name should not be showing at the time of judging 11. Exhibits MUST NOT be taken from Field Day until 3:30pm. Failure to comply will result in disqualification 12. All handicraft items entered in specific classes should not have been judged at a previous Field day 13. The Club and County display and static competitions MUST be displayed by 10am 14. Pre Field day exhibits are to be brought to PRESTON PATRICK MEMORIAL HALL BETWEEN 7:30PM AND 9:00PM ON WEDNESDAY 16TH APRIL 15. The Cumbria Federation of YFCs reserves the right to amend or cancel any of the rules applying to any competition at any time.
