This is a booklet designed to inform you about our Dance Academy, our goals, staffing and to give other practical information that may be of interest to parents considering enrolling their child/children within the studio. This is the third year of Rosanna’s Dance Academy under director, Miss Rosanna Evola who is administered with the supporting staff, students and parents of the Academy. In the 16 years that Rosanna has done dancing and trained in singing, two years of that were devoted to being a Jazz and Tap teacher at Revue Dance Academy and performed with “The Wallace Academy” for six years. Rosanna had been an assistant teacher at a young age at Starstruck Productions helping out with the younger age groups. Rosanna has also choreographed dances for many students to enter in the eisteddfods. When she was in High School she was the Dance Captain at West Moreton Anglican College and choreographed dances for Dance Company. Rosanna was also a dance teacher at Redbank State School (primary). Rosanna has her teacher’s certificate for the CSTD exam syllabus under the banner of Tap and is eligible to sit students for CSTD Jazz and Ballet examinations as well. To enrol a child into RDA, you will need to see Miss Rosanna as an enrolment form will need to be filled out before attendance. In making an application to enrol a child into Rosanna’s Dance Academy, parents are showing that they are prepared to commit themselves to working in co-operation with the Dance Academy personnel. There will be an adminastration fee charged on enrolment (non refundable). This fee also covers the Amcos/Aria Apra insurances (which will allow our studio to perform at concerts and eisteddfods), and the Public Liability insurance the Academy is forced to have. This fee is compulsory (see section on fees for price break-up). ENROLMENT AGE Rosanna’s Dance Academy has classes to suit all ages from 1.5 years to mature. Though not all students will be of the right age to participate in exams, there are performance groups and classes provided for each and every student. DANCE CENTRE/HOME COMMUNICATION During each term, students will receive notices of upcoming events, extra rehearsals, costume information and general interest information etc. Each month a newsletter will be sent through email. This is important means of communication. It is the childs responsibility to hand this information to their parents, and the parents responsibility to read it. PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT We ask a great deal of support from the parents to be helpers at either eisteddfods, concerts, costuming or fundraising events if needed. Information will be sent home about how you can help. We value your assistance and we are grateful for any help given. If you have any further enquires about anything that has been noted in this booklet, please feel free to contact Rosanna on her mobile 0401 160 576. Hope you all have a great year!! 4 5 Rosanna’s Dance Academy Staff of 2014 Miss Rosanna Evola Studio Principal Miss Sharnae Tamehana CSTD T/C Hip Hop Teacher Miss Jacinta Lazzaro Funk Jazz Teacher Miss Nikki Elphinstone Miss Sarah Simmons Miss Bekkah & Miss Kirstie Mum & Bub, Tiny Tots, Acro Ballet Tap, Strength6 CONTACTS FOR 2014 Administration Team Principal Rosanna Evola 0401 160 576 Administration Domenica Evola 0417 759 670 Costume Convenor Domenica Evola 0417 759 670 Uniform Shop Domenica Evola 0417 769 670 Teachers (Contacts) Miss Rosanna: 0401 160 576 Miss Sharnae: 0450 734 378 Miss Jacinta: 0430 154 116 Miss Nikki: 0409 890 503 Miss Sarah: 0430 710 760 Term Dates Term 1 28th Jan – 5th April 10 weeks Term 2 22nd April – 28th June 10 weeks Term 3 14th July – 20th Sept 10 weeks Term 4 7th Oct – 6h Dec 9 weeks Miss Bekkah: 0412 602 675 Miss Kirstie: 0481 214 314 Classes Available Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hiphop, Contemporary, Funk, Drama, Mum & Bub, Singing and Flex/Strength/Flexibility 7 IMPORTANT EVENTS CALENDER FOR 2014 JANUARY/FEBUARY Enrolment Day- January 18th Commence classes- January 28th FEBUARY/MARCH/APRIL Normal Classes MAY ICTF Eisteddfod – 1st-4th Ipswich Show – 16th-18th CSTD – 1st Round of Exams JUNE Ipswich Junior Eisteddfod – 3rd-9th AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER Gatton Eisteddfod – September 15th WestFest – October 12th CSTD – 2nd Round of Exams Jacaranda Festival – 24th-26th October NOVEMBER Concert – 15th DECEMBER USA TOUR Exact dates of events will be announced in newsletters when available. 8 9 RDA RULES Rules are viewed as aids to self-discipline. In the use of corrective measures, the teachers of the studio will endeavour to be firm, consistant and impartial. No parents or children are to enter the dance room if they are not taking part in the class. All classes are conducted with no parents in the room as this is a distraction to the students. Through performing at these events, the students gain self-esteem and confidence which will benefit later in life and above all, have fun and learn the value of working together as a team. Please Note: Children who want to participate in Eisteddfods need to attend group classes. All dancing Eisteddfods have an entry fee to enter the premises. The fee is usually around $5.00 per session. At some eisteddfods, children performing are not required to pay this fee. Although bought costumes are the property of the student, it is the Academy’s policy, that upon joining the academy, these costumes are made available to be passed on to the next age group or child taking part in that group if necessary. Some funds will be reimbursed. DRESSING YOUR CHILDREN Parents are required to use the public toilets to change their children before classes. Ideally, the children should be changed before they come to the studio. I can appreciate that time restraints sometimes do not allow for this, but every effort must be made by the parent. The toilet in the studio is only used for students in that particular class only. REHEARSALS Rehearsals are sometimes used to learn, polish or re-pattern groups for eisteddfod work. This might require weekends to learn a new routine. This allows valuable class time to not be taken up. Class time is used for improvement of techniques and the polishing of routines. If your child is selected for a new routine, it is expected that they attend any scheduled rehearsals or else their place in the dance will be taken. PARKING Parking is available at dance studio. Please park only in designated areas marked during business hours. 12 CLASSES If children participate in three classes, the fourth one will be free. This does not include exam classes or private lessons. Term accounts are issued in the first week of each term to be paid within 7 days of issue. No exceptions will be made. If a child commences a term it is required that the whole term is payed for regardless of attendance. Special arrangements is only made in cases of illness. Any late fees without any arrangements made with Miss Rosanna will conclude with a 10% increase of the total bill. Under no circumstances will refunds be given to any missed lessons. If your child is sick or you cannot bring your child to class due to family events etc, the lesson/s will still be paid for. Any classes that Miss Rosanna cannot attend will be either made up or another RDA teacher will take the lesson. No refunds will be given to classes missed due to eisteddfods. Within the year, Miss Rosanna holds many extra dance rehearsals to help out the students free of charge as well as dress rehearsals for the concert. This makes up for dance lessons missed. MEETINGS We recognise the cruical importance of parent/teacher contact. However it is important also that appointments are made so that teachers are free from other commitments and may give you their full attention. Under no circumstances are meetings or discussions are allowed to happen during dance classes. If it is only a small question/matter then you may email Miss Rosanna, wait until class is over, or write a note to give to your child and we will respond asap. 13 HEALTH & SAFETY It is important that all health information supplied on the enrolment form is kept up to date. Please notify Rosanna immediately of any changes. If a child falls ill during class it is important that they let the teacher know so parents can be contacted immediately. In the event of a serious injury or illness and parents can not be contacted, appriopiate action will be taken. There is a first aid kit on the premises so please see the principal if any injuires occur. All students under the age of 16 are to be escorted to and from the studio by an adult. Please insure that all parents are on time for pick up so that children are not left untended as there will be no supervision outside class times. It is required that all students bring at least one water bottle to all classes. The sharing of drink bottles is strictly prohibited. There will be time given during class for students to have a short drink break to re-hydrate. Please make sure your child attends the toilet prior to class. ABSENTEEISM In the event of absense from class, a phone call is expected explainning the reason. If a child is absent twice from performance classes without reason, it will result in the child being sent to the back line of the groups. Third absence means the child will be removed or replaced in the groups done in that lesson. If you and your child commit to the classes and eisteddfod work then it is assumed that they will attend the eisteddfods. SOLOS Children are only eligible to perform solo items if they also perform group items and classes. This rule is flexable in some cases at the discretion of the prinicpal. Solo classes are to be arranged with the principal. Any solo routines taught by RDA remains the property of RDA and may not be performed anywhere without prior permission. 14 HIRING OUT THE HALL Yes we hire out our hall to the public. This hiring system is just for the use of the dance room. This can be for a one day event or to book in the hall for a term or even weekly. Hire Fee: $30.00 per hour WORKSHOPS There will be workshops sometimes offered during the school holidays and sometimes during a class. This is a fun an active day where students can try out different genres of dance for a small fee and be taught by other choreographers. AMERICA As most familes already know, we are travelling to the USA in 2014 to do a dance tour where some RDA students will dance in Disneyland, California Land and Universal Studios and do many workshops. This is welcome to all hard-working and commited RDA students age 7yrs and up. Please see Miss Rosanna for further information. FUNDRAISING At different times during the year fundraising events will happen either to raise money for the studio or for America. In the month of the concert, each student is required to sell one box of chocolates or donate $20.00 to help go towards trophies. Each child will receive a trophy at the end of the year for particaption, and other trophies/perpetuals are presents to students for different classes etc. 15 STUDIO UNIFORMS Studio Jackets and Polo Shirts There will be notices handed out during the first couple of weeks in term one explaining order details, price etc. It is complusary for students to have this uniform if they do eisteddfods. WAITING IN RECEPTION ROOM I am happy for parents and students to wait in the reception room, however please make sure all children are under supervision and that you are respectful as classes are on just in the next room. If any mess is made by you or your family, it is your responsibility to make sure it is cleaned up. Cleaning products are available for use at the studio.
