Stargirl
by Jerry Spinelli
The first day Leo Borlock sees
Stargirl he is filled with disbelief.
She's the new girl who showed up to
her first day in an antique, off-white
gown that could have been a
wedding dress. Then at lunch time
she did the unthinkable, she took her
ukulele off her back and sang "I'm
looking for a four leaf clover." You just
don't do things like that if you want to
fit in. Things continue like this, getting
more outrageous, until the students
rebel and the shunning begins. Leo
and Stargirl try to go about their lives,
and pretend that the others don't
matter. But life is difficult enough
when you're in high school and ten
times worse if you don't "fit in".
The Lions of Little Rock

was caught passing for white.
Marlee decides that doesn't
matter. She just wants her friend
back. And to stay friends,
Marlee and Liz are even willing
to take on segregation and the
dangers their friendship could
bring to both their families.
Middle School: The Worst Year of My Life
by James Patterson
It's Rafe Khatchadorian's first day at Hills
Village Middle School, and it's shaping up
to be the worst year ever. He has enough
problems at home without throwing his first
year of middle school into the mix, but
luckily he's got an ace plan for the best year
ever--if only he can pull it off. With his best
friend Leonardo the Silent awarding him
points, Rafe tries to break every rule in his
school's oppressive Code of Conduct.
Chewing gum in class--5,000 points!
Running in the hallway--10,000 points!
Pulling the fire alarm--50,000 points! But
not everyone thinks Rafe's plan is a good
idea, especially not the teachers, parents,
and bullies who keep getting in his way.
Will Rafe decide that winning is the only
thing that matters?

thing yet: She can travel inside the
paintings, to a spooky world that's full of
dark shadows. Add to that three talking
cats, who live in the house and seem to be
keeping secrets of their own, and Olive
soon finds herself confronting a dark and
dangerous power that wants to get rid of

Olive to save the house from the dark
shadows, before the lights go out for good.
