Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to articulate similarities and differences between their family and
ancient ones
Students will be able to reflect upon how families have changed and make value judgments
about ancient and modern families
Set the Stage: (Activate, Review, Generate Interest, State Objectives and Agenda)
5-10 minutes
Students take a vocabulary pre-test; in 5-10 minutes, students define as many words as they
can from chapters 1-4. Students must then make flashcards of each word they get wrong
Instructional Strategies: (Include-Explanation/Modeling, frequent Checks for
Understanding, Guided and Independent Practice, Pair or Small Group Work and
Adjustments to Practice based on the Checks for Understanding) Activity should shift every
10-15 minutes
How to study for tests? 5-10 minutes
Teacher gives students a quick tutorial on how to approach studying for a test. Students
then practice the various study strategies in small groups.
Jeopardy Review Game
Students divide into teams of 4 and play a Jeopardy game to review the unit.
