The Affect & Cognition Laboratory in the department of Human Development within the College of Human Ecology is currently searching for a Technician IV. Dr. Eve DeRosa, Associate Professor of Human Development and co-director of the Affect & Cognition Lab, conducts research focusing on the psychological and neural foundations of emotion and cognition. The lab employs a variety of methodological approaches including functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), peripheral psychophysiology, computational modeling, and rat models to investigate how the brain gives rise to complex mental events such as emotions, attention, learning and memory. Key Deliverables: As a key member of the Affect & Cognition Lab team, you will focus on conducting behavioral neuroscience experiments with rats and cognitive neuroscience experiments with human participants on cognition. Specific tasks may include: Conduct a wide range of experiments including: behavioral and electrophysiological data from rats; rate survival surgery and histology on brain slices; behavioral and fMRI testing sessions with human participants Coordinate testing sessions Perform data management and analysis using Excel and other statistical programs like SPSS Lab management – maintain lab supplies, obtain equipment quotes, troubleshoot equipment failures, ensure compliance with biohazard safety standards, clean wet lab, sterilize equipment Core Competencies: We are seeking an energetic, hardworking individual who is extremely responsible, organized, and efficient. Candidate must be able to occasionally work irregular hours, including evenings and/or weekend and must also be able to work successfully with a diverse group of people. Specific requirements include: Bachelor’s degree in cognitive psychology, physiology, neuroscience or pharmacology A significant amount of course-work and/or research experience in at least two of the following: cognitive psychology, neuroscience, pharmacology or statistics Strong computer skills including familiarity with Windows-based and/or UNIX-based computer programs Preferred Competency: prior research experience with rat behavior and electrophysiology experiments. Preferred Competency: experience in basic computer programming is an asset (e.g. Python).
