Design Technology Designing and creating a clay poppy based on the ‘Weeping Window’ installation at the Tower of London. We are looking to recognise the place value of each digit in a 4-digit number, ordering, comparing and rounding numbers up to and beyond 1000. We will recall multiplication facts up to x12. Columnar methods will be developed and used for subtraction and addition. We will compare, classify and identify symmetry in shapes. Year 4 will convert between units of measure; calculate perimeter; estimate, compare and calculate measures, including money in pounds and pence. We will work on counting in hundredths; solving problems with increasingly harder fractions and show common equivalent fractions. Time will be converted between analogue and digital 12- and 24- hour clocks. Throughout all areas we will be solving 1- and 2- step word problems. Geography Geographical skills will be taught throughout the Spring and Summer term which will be reinforced with a residential trip to London in May, 2015. We will be looking at; People, Confirmation, Hinduism and Gift (Advent). Physical Education We will keep fit through enhancing existing passing and ball control skills. This will be followed by developing the use of our bodies to express meaning through dance. Geography We will be conducting a UK City study based on our capital city, London, asking the question ‘Why is London such a cool place to live?’. Writing Writing will be based on a multimedia topic ‘El Dorado’ where children will be planning, drafting, editing and revising work to produce their own film.
