musicians, but none for college or university
band members
Movement to create such organization started
at then Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma
State University)

Band member William Scroggs, Professor
Bohumil Makovsky, and Band President A.
Frank Martin held a secret conference to
select the first ten brothers











Bohumil Makovsky was the first
National Honorary Member of Kappa
Kappa Psi
Currently serves over 200 college
and university band programs with
over 5,000 active members



Affectionately referred to by all who knew
him as “Boh”
Officially recognized as “The Guiding Spirit of
Kappa Kappa Psi.”
Born September 23, 1878 in Frantisky,
Bohemia


Boh immigrated to the United States in 1895
at the age of seventeen to join his sister in
Clarkson, Nebraska
At the turn of the century, Boh decided to
form his own band.




Moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1904
“King of Oklahoma March” – Boh’s first
march
Selected as band director at Oklahoma
Agricultural and Mechanical College on
September 1, 1915
Boh resigned his position at OAMC in July
1943 due to WWII, age and Parkinson’s
Disease


Honorary major in the OAMC ROTC - 1922

Elected 4th Grand President of KKY -1927
