*What does Identity Theft mean?*
 According to the Wikipedia, Identity Theft is a form
of fraud or cheating of one another person’s identity
in which someone pretends to be someone else by
assuming that persons identity.

• In 1998, Congress passed the Identity Theft and
Assumption Deterrence Act, making Identity
Theft a federal crime.
• It is a federal with a maximum of 15 years
sentence.
• In 2004, President Bush signed the Identity Theft
Penalty Enhancement Act that guarantees a minimum
of two years in prison for those who use identity theft
to commit a crime, including terrorism.

Scenario
 When Marc got his degree
in teaching he was
required a new license.
 So he passed his old
license down to his
younger brother, Stevewho was only 19.
 Marc didn’t think he was
doing anything wrong.
…People don’t realize that
they can get in trouble of
this small case.
 When Steve tried to use his “fake” at
the ABC store, they caught him. They
soon called the cops and Steve was
arrested for Identify theft.
 Although Marc didn’t physically do
anything wrong, he still had to pay
fines because he gave his identify
away.
 Marc then tried to apply for a
teaching job, but was rejected
because of this incident.

 Don’t pass your license down to anyone, even
blood- shred it and throw it away.
 Don’t try to buy alcohol with false
identification.
 Even though Marc didn’t think he was doing
anything wrong, he still allowed false
identification to happen.
 Don’t risk your career job for family because
it will only hurt you; no matter how bad he
wants your license.

*Change password every four to three months
*Keep it from people; even the people who you trust
*Shred old Credit Cards
*Analyze your credit reports annually
*Limit information on checks
**Try to prevent anyone online purchases; your CC can get stolen
this way
The most important way of preventing yourself is avoiding any online purchases.
There are computer perfections who know how to steal your Credit Card
information through computers.
