May Allen/Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarships

Tuition Assistance for Study through Tulane University School of Continuing Studies

New Orleans, LA

The May Allen/Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarships memorialize Dr. May Allen, the first woman to receive a doctoral degree in classics from Yale University (1908). Dr. Allen, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, was a professor of classics at Newcomb College. Upon her retirement, the Louisiana chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma created a scholarship fund in her honor; a portion of Dr. Allen’s estate further enhanced the fund.

What Will the Scholarships Fund?

The May Allen/Delta Kappa Gamma Scholarships provide tuition support for non-matriculating study in the School of Continuing Studies, Tulane University’s division for part-time students

(formerly known as University College). Any courses available to part-time students are eligible for scholarship support, including summer travel-study programs offered by Tulane University.

Please note that prerequisites may be required for certain courses, and some are not open to parttime students (such as graduate level classes). Awards will be made for the summer, fall, and spring semesters. The scholarships will pay tuition and fees only.

Living expenses, stipends exceeding tuition and fees, and other expenses (materials, books, equipment) are not eligible.

Multiple scholarship awards are available each semester.

Who Is Eligible?

Members of Delta Kappa Gamma belonging to the organization for at least three years who have 5 or more years of school service as a classroom teacher, librarian, counselor,

administrator, etc. are eligible to apply. Preference will be shown to currently active school personnel.
