Our home, the Earth Most of us would never leave this planet for another in our lifetime. Here we live, grow, play, laugh, cry and even die. This is our home given to us by God to enjoy. What do you know about it? Earth is the third planet from the Sun and it is found between Venus and Mars; Earth is the densest planet in the Solar System; Earth is the largest of the Solar System's four terrestrial planets; The only celestial body known to accommodate life; The Earth orbits the Sun every 365¼ mean solar days. Since we cannot have a ¼ of a day, every fourth year has 366 days and it is called a leap year with an extra day added to February to make 29 days. A leap year is any year divided exactly by 4; The earth is about 150 million kilometers( 93 million miles) away from the Sun; The earth’s diameter is 12760 kilometers (7928 miles) It takes 24 hours—a solar day—for the Earth to complete a full rotation about its axis. Its axis is tilted at about 23.4º; Viewed from a vantage point above the north poles of both the Sun and Earth, Earth orbits in a counterclockwise direction about the Sun; The Earth, along with the Solar System, is situated in the Milky Way galaxy; It is the only planet in the solar system with proven life (You and I); The earth is the only inner planet (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) to have one large satellite, the Moon. Mars has two small moons while Mercury and Venus have none.
