Submit at least one college application this month. (You should’ve already
completed the 2 year applytexas.org application during ACC College
Connections classroom guidance.)
Check your grades constantly. If you have any grades below 70, seek additional help during tutorials to ensure you stay on track for graduation.
If you intend on taking ACC Early College Start classes in the spring, work with the Transition Counselor to complete necessary paperwork for
advising. This will happen at the end of October/beginning of November.
Go online to www.pin.ed.gov to create a Federal Student Aid PIN number.
Your parents will also need to register for a PIN number as well. You will
need this to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
form AFTER JANUARY 1st of your senior year.
Register for the SAT test (www.collegeboard.com) and/or ACT tests
(www.act.org) to take them this spring. If you qualify for
free/reduced lunch, go to the College and Career Center for a fee
waiver.
Begin working on the FAFSA form! www.fafsa.ed.gov
All college/university financial aid offices require that students and their
parents complete the FAFSA to be considered for federally funded grant,
aid, and work study programs. Some additional scholarships offered
through the college may require that you have submitted this as well.
Regardless of how much your parent(s) make, everyone should file this
form! You can always turn down any of the financial aid offered, but you’ll
limit your aid opportunities by not completing this form.
If you do not have a social security number, you will use the TAFSA form
instead to file for financial aid to use in Texas. Go to
www.collegeforalltexans.com under Apply – For Financial Aid for the
application.
Review your first semester grades. If you have any grades below 70 make an appointment to meet with your counselor.
Consider visiting a college campus or two during spring break.
Attend a FAFSA Saturday event if you need additional assistance in filling
out the FAFSA form.
Course verifications go out. This will give you another opportunity
to review your choices for next year and make any changes you’d
like to make before next year. (Schedule changes will not happen
once we begin the next school year so it’s important to review this
carefully and submit it to your counselor.)
** Remember: You will be asked to list your senior courses on
scholarship and college applications. You’ll also be required to
submit your transcript mid-year and at the end of the year so
colleges will be reviewing your coursework from senior year.
Continue to challenge yourself academically. Senior year is not the
time to take the easy way out!
State testing is coming up! Go to the Texas Education Agency
website (www.tea.state.tx.us) for study guides and practice tests.
