Be thorough, and use the interview questions list on the senior project website for guidance. (1) What qualities does a person need to possess to be in this type of position? To be a Marine Corps Recruiter one must be a people person. The individual must have good work ethic as well as outstanding time management skills. (2) What training or education is required for this type of work? One must be a Marine, completing Marine Corps Basic training. When you reach the rank of sergeant you may request to become a recruiter. You then attend Basic Recruiter School taking courses on public speaking, communications, and Marine Corps benefits. (3) How much flexibility do you have in terms of dress, hours of work, vacation, ect? The Marine Corps offers me 30 days of paid leave a year and all holidays off. Hour of work depend on your job and location. As a recruiter we tend to have long work days that consist of school visits, appointments, and area canvassing, as well as administration work. The uniform is assigned depending on the activity for the day. (4) What are the basic prerequisites for jobs in this field? The Marine Corps is a very demanding field. One must get good qualifying scores on the ASVAB, be of perfect physical health, and superior physical shape. (5) What formal or on the job training does the organization provide? Depending on the job assigned, new Marines will attend school from 3 months up to a year. They learn their job in a classroom setting. After graduation from school you will get assigned a job location where you will do hands on training. (6) How well did your college experience prepare you for this job? I did not attend college before the Marine Corps. During it helped me understand different jobs better, be a better leader and an educated/ better Marine. (7) What inspired you to choose your career? I have always been interested in the military. The Marine Corps and its challenges set them apart from the other branches. (8) How important are grades/ GPA for obtaining a job in this field? Even though they don’t directly get looked at to join you must get a good ASVAB score and you must be proficient in school to do that. (9) What is the most rewarding part of your job? Doing what I love, and being a part of something this great. (10) What opportunities for advancement are there this field? Growing professionally, gaining experience, and a job skill.
