His bestselling books include Liar's Poker (1989), The New New Thing (2000), Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game (2003), The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game (2006) Movie SUMMARY ▪ Based on the true story of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy who take in a homeless teenage African-American, Michael "Big Mike" Oher. Michael has no idea who his father is and his mother is a drug addict. Michael has had little formal education and few skills to help him learn. Leigh Anne soon takes charge however, as is her nature, ensuring that the young man has every opportunity to succeed. When he expresses an interest in football, she goes all out to help him, including giving the coach a few ideas on how best to use Michael's skills. They not only provide him with a loving home, but hire a tutor to help him improve his grades to the point where he would qualify for an NCAA Division I athletic scholarship. Michael Oher was the first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2009 NFL draft. Cast SANDRA BULLOCK ▪ Leigh Anne Tuohy is a tough-as-nails Southern woman who first makes the decision to welcome Michael Oher into her family. From the moment Leigh Anne Tuohy first sets eyes on Michael Oher, she treats him as her son, loving him as if she had given birth to him. In exchange, Leigh Anne Tuohy becomes the first woman that Michael Oher ever trusts enough to truly love. QUINTON AARON ▪ Michael Oher is the star of the book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. Michael grew up as an extremely impoverished child in the ghettos of Memphis. He rarely had a place to sleep at night and struggled to find clothing to keep him warm and food to fill his stomach. When Big Tony helps enroll Michael in a wealthy, private school, Michael is adopted by a rich, white family. This family, the Tuohys, help Michael overcome all the problems in his life to be a highly courted college football player. Michael Oher eventually goes on to become a first-draft NFL pick. TIM MCGRAW ▪ Sean Tuohy is a wealthy business owner in Memphis, Tennessee who spends his free time as a volunteer coach for the Briarcrest Christian High School football team. Sean Tuohy is instrumental in coaching Michael Oher to his football success and in ensuring that Michael has a strong financial future. Sean Tuohy spearheads Michael’s academic success and fights his battles for him when the NCAA accuses Michael of accepting offers from the Tuohy family in exchange for his promise to play college ball for Ole Miss. LILY COLLINS ▪ Collins Tuohy is Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy’s daughter. She’s the exact same age as Michael Oher, a fact that causes many people in the Tuohys’ community to question whether or not Michael should be trusted alone with her. Upon graduating high school, Collins goes on to attend Ole Miss alongside Michael and leads the football cheer squad. JAE HEAD ▪ Sean Junior Tuohy is the 10-year-old son of Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy. SJ, as Sean Junior is called, is the first to crack Michael Oher’s shell, treating the huge footballer as he would his own brother. This close relationship carries through to when schools try to lure Michael to their programs. KATHY BATES ▪ Miss Sue is Michael’s private tutor. She is hired by the Tuohy family to help raise Michael’s grades so that he will qualify to play football for Briarcrest Christian High School. He is best known for directing the sports drama films The Rookie (2002) and The Blind Side (2009) and the historical comedy-drama film Saving Mr. Banks (2013). CRITICS The Hollywood Reporter. Michael Rechtshaffen Bullock is an irrepressible hoot in writer-director John Lee Hancock's otherwise thoroughly conventional take on Michael Lewis' fact-based book "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game." My thoughts about the movie ▪ I personally believe this is a beautiful movie with a beautiful message. Teach us what mankind is and how rewarding is to help others to fulfill their dreams. The real Touhy family. ▪ Tuohy family did not only give Michael a home, food and clothes, they helped him in his education, they found what is great and unique about him and provided all the tools and resources to make of him a man with opportunities, a career and a person useful in society.
