Thank you for your interest in attending East Carolina University Graduate School. You may complete the
application on the web site at http://www.ecu.edu/gradschool or download a printable version which you should
complete and return with a U.S. $70 nondeductible, nonrefundable application fee. If paying by check please
make arrangements with a bank in your area to pay this fee through an international correspondent bank in the
United States.
Carefully review the instructions and supply complete answers to all questions. Your failure to provide complete,
accurate, and truthful information on this application will be grounds to deny or withdraw your admission, or
dismiss you after enrollment.
DEADLINES: Priority processing will be given to applications received on or prior to the deadlines listed below.
These deadlines are especially important if you intend to apply for any funding from the university.

TRANSCRIPTS: An official transcript, mark sheets, or documents with official seals should be provided from
each college or university that you have previously attended. Such documents must indicate that at a minimum a
bachelor's degree or its equivalent has been awarded by an accredited college or university. The documents
should be provided in your native language of issue as well as an official, notarized, or certified copy in English.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Two letters of recommendation should be sent from persons who can attest
directly to your academic competence or ability to do graduate work. The letters must be sent directly to the
Graduate School. Counselor education, library and information studies, the School of Music, the School of Social
Work, and the EdD in educational leadership require three letters. Letters are not required for business
administration, elementary education, health education, exercise and sport science, mathematics, physics,
rehabilitation studies, or science education.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY: If English is not your native language and you have not completed at least one year of
education at a United States school, you are required to take a standardized English language exam or complete
the ECU Language Academy (ECULA). The Graduate School accepts either the TOEFL or IELTS and scores
must be forwarded to the Graduate School by the testing service. An IBT TOEFL score of 20 on each section for
a total minimum score of 80, 550 (paper based), or 213 (computer based), or IELTS score of 6.5 is required to
meet the language exam requirement. The school code for ECU is 5180. If you do not obtain the required score
on the TOEFL or IELTS, at least one session of the ECU Language Academy will be required prior to the start of
your program. You may choose to attend the ECU Language Academy instead of taking the TOEFL or
IELTS. Successful completion of level 5 of the ECU Language Academy is required for admission without
TOEFL or IELTS scores. More information on the ECU Language Academy, including the ECULA application, is
available at http://ecula.ecu.edu. Individual programs may have higher minimum requirements.
STANDARDIZED TESTS: The Graduate School requires official test center copies of all test scores sent directly
by the Test Center.
GMAT is required by the College of Business applicants
GRE is required by all other Master’s and Doctoral programs

FINANCIAL INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS (Please read carefully.)
The application forms include financial information that you must provide. No application will be reviewed unless
this financial information is provided and the student provides certified evidence of financial resources.
Your application will be processed only when all supporting documents have been received by the Graduate
School. The department in which you want to study will review your credentials and make a recommendation to
the Graduate School. Applicants are admitted only upon the issuance of a formal letter of admission by the
Graduate School. If you are accepted into a program, additional papers will be sent to you to document your
medical history. These records, as well as evidence of the purchase of health and accident insurance, will be
required before you can register for course work.

Additional fees for MBA/MSA - $125 per credit hour
(1) Tuition and fees may be increased by the North Carolina Legislature without notice. The fees above are
the costs of full-time enrollment for the 2013-2014 academic years.
(2) Living expenses cover rent, food, clothing, and incidentals.
(3) All international students must purchase mandatory health insurance from the university.
(4) All other items are estimates and should be considered as the minimum. New students will need funds
immediately upon arrival to cover payment of tuition and fees as well as housing and the purchase of new
household items and any other necessary items. Assistantships, if awarded, are paid out at intervals and
are not available at the beginning of the semester for payment of tuition. If you will be accompanied by a
spouse please add $4000 and/or $2000 for each child.

North Carolina State Legislature.
