Debt related to legal fees is a huge burden
on the poor. It continues to keep them in
the poverty cycle. States no longer assist
with the legal fees.

Minow points out how our legal system is
not equal for the indigent. Not providing
legal aid to those who can’t afford it, hurts
our entire society.

REFLECTION
I liked how the article discussed how
fees related to their court case
becomes a burden for the defendents
and inevitably keeps them trapped
in the legal system.
Minow addressed the lack of legal
aid for the poor and the effects it
has on our society. She showed how
the burden of one leads to a failure
in our society.
I liked how Minow walked the
Reader through reasons for why
justice for the poor is an injustice
due to lack of money.
The article covered the conclusion of
Their survey. I felt it had a good

the section that covers our right
to a speedy trial.
The recent incident involving Freddie
Gray shows again, how our legal
System is unbalanced and continues
to keep the poor trapped in the
legal system. Transparency is
important for both sides.
I didn’t think much of the article.
It provided some statistics that was
tied more to a states budget.
This reminds me of the Gray case
that is currently a hot topic in the
media. It shows how one demographic is regularly targeted.
It a great synopsis for the history
of the right to counsel. The article
makes it nice and simple.
