Additional Information for teacher about activity: This activity is adding two-digit plus twodigit numbers with regrouping by adding the tens first, the ones and then the sums. The cards can be used with a board activity played in groups of 2 or 3 or individually for practice. An activity sheet has been included for this purpose.

Activity Name: Addition Express
Standard: Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
Skill/Objective:

Adding 2-digit
Directions:
1.
Work in a group of 2-3 partners.
2.
You will need a CHILD activity game board , set of cards, token for each student, a number cube, Answer Key, Activity Sheet for each student.
3.
Shuffle cards and place face down.
4.
Tallest partner goes first.
5.
Pick a card, read it aloud and answer. Use the anchor chart to help you solve the problem, if needed.
6.
Partner to the left checks the answer with the Answer Key.
7.
If correct, roll the number cube and move that many spaces on the board. If not correct, place the card at the bottom of the pile.
8.
Take turns until someone reaches the end of the board.
9.
Complete the Activity Sheet, as directed.
Challenge: Solve the following and describe how you solved it.
There were 122 birds on the beach. 32 birds joined them. How many birds were on the beach? Use a Challenge Question Answer Sheet to show your work.
Reflection: I think it is easier to add the tens and then the ones because . . .
