Trust in the Lord with All Your Heart
Gospel Value: Compassion
Therefore, as God’s chosen, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with
compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Colossians 3:12
Dear OLR Families,
As summer break quickly approaches, you may be thinking about scheduling a family
vacation, day trips, outings to the pool, or perhaps you are just wondering how you are
going to keep your child engaged in activities for the next two months. What you may not
know is how much educational ground your child may lose during the long summer break,
particularly when it comes to reading and reading comprehension. This is commonly
referred to as the “backwards summer slide.”
In an effort to avoid the “summer slide”, I encourage all of our parents to make sure that
your child has access to plenty of books to read over the summer. Perhaps you may want
to enroll your child in the local public library’s summer reading program or better yet . . .
enroll in our free summer Extended Learning Program. Research shows that the volume
of summer book reading (six or more books) positively impacts your child’s fall reading
achievement scores and improvement in reading fluency, vocabulary, and
comprehension. So, please stress the importance of reading with your child this summer
and make sure that you have plenty of books for your child to read over the summer.
Please take time to register your child in the free summer school program through our
Extended Learning Program. Vanessa Chacon, our ELP Site Coordinator, has plenty of
fun enrichment activities and exciting outings taking place from June 15th – July 17th. Sign
up today using the attached registration form.
Just a reminder . . . Our Lady of the Rosary School’s Enrollment Incentive program is
being offered again to all of our school families. If you “tell a friend” about our school and
the family registers their child for the 2015-16 school year, you will receive one
registration fee FREE! So please tell your family and friends about all that our school has
to offer its students and families and save $400.00.
Trust in the Lord,
Maureen Christensen

faith in Him.
