Statement of Work
•Problem Statement:
A common trend in the manufacturing sector has been the use of external
consultants to evaluate and assist with manufacturing continuous improvement activities.
The majority of consultants offer their proposed services and fees initially and at a very
broad level. Often, the anticipated or budgeted deliverables are not achieved. The cost of
a poorly implemented consulting endeavor can be immense.
Statement of Work
•Project Statement:
Investigate the current needs of the marketplace and evaluate the start up of an
engineering consulting business focusing on manufacturing improvements.
Project Deliverables
• Complete a case study by researching today’s
continuous improvement methodologies and
strategies for manufacturing companies and
combine with a specific market need. Determine
ideal continuous improvement methods and
procedures.
• Complete a business start-up analysis. The
consulting business will offer a unique service to
obtaining great enhancements in manufacturing cost
and quality.
Project Deliverable
• Complete a validation study of the methods and
procedures by applying case study conclusions to a
business and real manufacturing process.

•Case Study
 Benchmark manufacturing process improvement techniques (i.e. value
engineering, six sigma, lean manufacturing, etc).
 Construct ideal continuous improvement methods and procedures (or utilize
existing methods/procedures) based on benchmarked methodologies.

•Business Start-up Analysis
 Complete a market, products/services, and customer analysis.
 Complete a viable business target profit analysis.
 Create a detailed analysis for a cost effective location, including office space and
any other additional space needs.
 Complete an analysis by determining the required number of employees and an
appropriate organizational structure for the business.

•Validation Study
 Interview potential customers and define viable applications of the case study.
 Conduct validation by applying case study conclusions to a business and real
manufacturing process.
 Conduct post project review (PPR) of the case study from the customer
perspective (strengths and weaknesses).
 Re-evaluate our business strategy.
 Document the feasibility and transportability for future opportunities.
