SCHOOLS & OFFICES CLOSED –Wednesday, September 23rd for Yom Kippur FALL DANCE East Middle’s Fall Dance is scheduled for Friday, October 2 after school from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at all lunches beginning at September 28. Parents of children attending the dance should plan to pick up their children at 5:30 p.m. Please call the Main Office with any questions. BULLDOG LEARNING LAB (BDLL) The East Middle school Bulldog Learning Lab (BDLL) opens for the 2015-2016 school year on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. By completing and signing the attached participation form, you give your child permission to stay in school until 4:25 and you agree to provide transportation from school at 4:25, on the days you have designated. Permission slips are also available outside the main office. BDLL will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather early dismissals. You will be notified if BDLL is cancelled for any other reason via Blackboard Connect. Please call a school administrator or Ms. Janeski with any questions you may have. High expectations for behavior and participation will be enforced. Students who do not need these expectations will not be invited to return. GIRLS GOING PLACES We are excited to announce the fall edition of a club for girls interested in running and creating a successful future. Girls Going Places will meet once a week for nine weeks from 3:25-4:35. They will spend their time discussing topics to help girls build a positive self-esteem, increase their running ability and other related activities. This club is for students at any physical ability, so don’t worry if you can’t run, come and walk with some of your peers. Group discussions will be led by EMS faculty and a few guest speakers. The goal is to improve ourselves while having fun!! Attached please find the permission slip for this club. PICTURE DAY Picture Day is Monday, September 28th. Students should bring their order form and payment with them on the 28th. All students will have their picture taken even if they do not order pictures so that we can include them in our yearbook. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Our first Parent/Teacher Conferences of the year will be held tonight, Monday, September 21 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. The conferences this evening are by invitation – parents with whom teachers would like to meet tonight have been contacted to schedule an appointment. A second round of conferences open to all parents is scheduled just a few weeks later, on October 14. While tonight’s conferences are by invitation, there will be three workshops taking place that evening that all parents are welcome to attend. The workshops will be held in the school’s Media Center and will be on the following topics: Accessing students grades through the Home Access Center Using Office 365 East Middle School Academic Interventions available to students All parents are welcome to attend any or all of these workshops whether or not they have a parent/teacher conference planned that evening. Workshops will run continuously between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. COMMUNITY RESOURCE Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) Talent Search is accepting applications for its annual Talent Search for academically talented students in grades 2-8. CTY offers testing through the Talent Search, and a wide array of services for academically talented students, including summer and online courses.
